A/C guy is here fixing my main unit. I hope it's just a freon deal. I have the windows and doors open and the ceiling fans running full speed. Unsure how anyone living south of the Mason Dixon line was able to survive our summers without A/C? It had to have been fricking miserable. Of all the modern conveniences, I'd have to say A/C is the one that I couldn't live without.

$100 just to show up and tell me what's wrong with it. Nice.

Architecture designed not to let hot air into the house, generally combined with not living in an area that is hot as Hell most times of the year.

You'd learn to deal with it pretty quick. I lived a summer without it and it wasn't that I was tougher, I just had a much broader range of what I was willing to call comfortable.

They didn’t know what they were missing, and houses back then were built to move air through the house and he’ll keep it cooler.

I lived in a house one summer in Tuscaloosa without central air. The bedrooms had window units. I got used to it after a couple of weeks. Showering was the worst part as I’d start sweating almost immediately afterwards.

They adapted and were tougher.

Partially if it doesn't exist and you've never experienced it you don't miss it.

The earth was a perfect 72 degrees all year round until bad humans ruined the environment by use of fossil fuels to power the industrial revolution. Duh

They didn't have climate change.

The world was 1.1 degrees cooler then.

There have been some good threads on this over the years. Attic fans seemed to help make things more comfortable.

My parents barely used it. I am still scarred, but I don't get as hot as most people indoors.
