They made two selections with that initial trade so they second first round selection has to be added. They didn't just give up all of that for Olave. They gave up all of that two add a second first to draft a tackle and move up for Olave.
This some seriously tortured logic right here

Saints needed a guy that will come in day one and be a solid #2 opposite Thomas, not sure if they would've gotten that with any of the later picks.
This illustrates another problem, locking in on one position of need. There were some good prospects available after, Dotson and and Burks went 16 and 18, Watson 34 and Pickens and Moore 52 and 54 which is after the DB reach.

We got hosed.
Could have gotten the best WR in the draft and held on to our 2nd, 3rd and 4th if we wouldnt have stayed.
Bad move for the saints.

The first time Olave drops a pass some of your heads are gonna explode

None of this is hard. They paid a steep price for I think a great WR and a great need. MT gets better, JW gets better which helps the run game get better.
I think our WR group will be unrecognizable from last year

I worry every time we give up a first for the next year, but then I remember that the rams haven’t had a first in a very long time and they are ok. Hopefully next year our salary cap is better and that will give us more flexibility to go out and replace an unknown draft pick with a known WR with nfl experience

Nah, I’m reasonable. I’m more interested in what the WRs picked after him do, and if the idea that this was a deep class holds up.

We gave up a lot for Olave. But we won't know if it was worth it until 2-3 years down the line and we see how the others pan out.
We didn't think MT13 was THAT much of a steal until we saw how bad the other WRs taken were. Now we understand we got an insane value. It's one of the reasons I'm not rushing to overreact that we paid so much. Did we? Yes. But if go on an improbable run and he torches teams in the playoffs and helps us win a SB...we really gonna be complaining about how much we gave up?

I’m trying to temper my expectations but i feel like Olave is gonna be the best rookie receiver from this draft class. I’m expecting a big year from him and Jameis.

Lol. I made this very thread and mentioned the Ricky Williams trade days ago.
Got the same downvotes as you

Still not an entire draft plus. Again, here's the compensation Ditka gave up for one player: 1999 1st 1999 3rd 1999 4th 1999 5th 1999 6th 1999 7th 2000 1st 2000 3rd The Ricky Williams trade has only one comparison, that being the Hershel Walker trade.
Since a lot of you like to play these mental gymnastics about what we gave up. This is actually worse than the Ricky trade b/c we actually got two first rounders back when we traded him. So it was a zero net loss of first round picks.

The Saints roster is not that deep. They lack bonafide starters & 2nd team players at multiple positions
People keep saying that, but we need help on the DL, at TB at RB and at WR. We did plug a hole at safety today.

This makes no sense. How good or bad other WR drafted ahead of Thomas were is irrelevant to his value. We got an elite talent at 47, that’s why it’s valuable to have extra picks rather than trade them to move up

will disagree with this. I think all the Tier1 WRs would have been gone by 16. Olave is certainly a Tier1 WR
That's what I mean. We could have gotten a good #2 wr at our original spots. Not tier1 but a high level tier 2, and it wouldn't have been such a draft pick bank buster.

Who?

Yeah who? Also we wouldn’t have gotten Penning who is one of the premiere Tackles in this class. We got two day 1 starters in my opinion. Let’s go play

I mean it's way more likely that one of the guys behind him outplay him. Taking the field isn't much of a statement.
The question is whether a specific player behind him is the clear better pick. And, the next question is whether that player would have been there at 16.
I think Williams is that guy...but there was zero chance he would have been there at 16.

They gave up a lot for this kid.
Lets see how he does.

Curious what the cost is on the chart to go from 18 to 11...

This is contradictory.
It’s not our job to pinpoint that player. The board had value, yes, that’s a general statement.
If Olave is the guy, he better damn well be that guy after that haul
