Used to live a block and a half from there. Honestly not that surprised.

Kind of close to the Friday murder

https://www.wafb.com/2022/04/23/17-year-old-girl-killed-apartment-complex-shooting-identified-2-arrests-made/

Also seems like the place above is in that general area of the apartments or townhome where a while back the mom killed the daughter and went to work while the step-dad took the body to Mississippi and then came back, left door open for other kids to notice coming back from school, and then said he had been sleeping and the kid either got out or was taken. I remember the story as someone started a discussion on the OT wondering why no one had discussed the missing black kid yet before the truth came out.

Edit: i might not have exact area correct, but that utility line area that cuts through broadmoor from Florida (goodwood & browning pass through it) seems to have come up a few times when trying to use map app to figure out where a crime happened that got discussed on the OT.

20 years from now, when this city is a shell of it's former self, when violent crime touches every neighborhood in both the inner city and suburbs weekly, when major industries have long since packed up and left for a better work force and quality of life for their employees, I hope most will remember how this started;

Following the summer of '16, local political leaders built their power on villainizing the police and restricting their efforts to hold the simplest criminals accountable.

That will be the moment many look back and recognize that they were sold a lie, the consequences of which this area never recovered from.

Right by our family home behind the high school. When we visit family my wife and I walk the dog along there as part of a loop we take. Sad.

Dang I run on browning road all the time and that is south of Goodwood. When will we hold the perpetrators that commit these atrocities and the elected officials that enable this accountable?

I know it’s a running joke here, but if it had happened last Sunday, it really could’ve been me.

I’ve spent a chunk of the past couple of weeks doing surveys in that neighborhood—including the full length of Browning. A few sketchy areas around the perimeter, but overall it seemed safe/secure. Lots of older/retired folks and more empty houses than this current real estate market would suggest. But, damn, it didn’t seem that bad.

All BRPD is now is a group of people that do not live in the city, and only does clean up after incidents.

BRPD is on a downhill spiral.
Really not needed as we have a metro council form of government.
We should also only have 1 fire dept for the parish and 1 sheriffs office.

It may not happen immediately, but give it 20 years mostly due to the cost of running the dept.

From someone I know who lives nearby --- Apparently this was at a vacant house that had partially burned recently. Has been For Sale for a long time. It's relatively isolated (by Broadmoor standards) as it's right next to a large utility right-of-way. Maybe some kind of squatter/transient beef?
