So sounds like they raised some hell and likely that was always the plan. It seemed odd to launch a coup but not immediately take out your opposition.

So question is what was the plan here. Did Wagner bosses just want a deal behind the scenes to elevate themselves? Was it to get rid of some leadership in the MoD? If not for Putin calling them traitors I’d have said this was a state plan all along.

What a weird deal, but certainly doesn’t look like the GG Russia people were claiming this morning.

ETA: guess it was just to get some changes. Wonder if this means harsher folks taking over.

Today, the world saw that the bosses of Russia do not control anything. Nothing at all. Complete chaos. Complete absence of any predictability.

First, the world should not be afraid. We know what protects us. Our unity.

Ukraine will definitely be able to protect Europe from any Russian forces, and it doesn't matter who commands them. We will protect. The security of Europe's eastern flank depends only on our defense.

Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian guns, Ukrainian tanks, Ukrainian missiles are all that protect Europe from such marches as we see today on Russian territory. And when we ask to give us the F-16 fighters or the ATACMS, we're enhancing our common defense. Real defense.

Second, everything must be real. It's time for everyone in the world to frankly say that all of Russia's criminal actions against Ukraine were and are unprovoked. And we all have to focus exclusively on our common security priorities. NATO is not just a word or a set of formal promises. These are reliable guarantees for everyone that peace won't be destroyed. Without Ukraine, such guarantees are worthless. Already in July at the summit in Vilnius, it is a historic chance for real decisions without looking back at Russia. Any nation that borders Russia supports this.

What will we, Ukrainians, do?

We will defend our country. We will defend our freedom. We will not be silent and we will not be inactive. We know how to win – and it will happen. Our victory in this war.

And what will you, Russians, do?

The longer your troops stay on Ukrainian land, the more devastation they will bring to Russia. The longer this person is in the Kremlin, the more disasters there will be.

Either this offers an off ramp for RUS and Wagner for both today's events and the UKR war.

Or

Wagner taking needed operational pause as their column nears exhaustion and stretched logistics.

Perhaps Putin leveraged the crisis to dispose of potential threats from inner circle while their security elements were distracted and focused on threat closing on Moscow? Some key figures may have by inadvertently self exiled during the reported air exodus from Moscow.

Maybe Wagner expected more regular RUS units to turn.

Yeah I suspect there is more background dealing that went on here. The question is who is replacing these guys and what are their views on how the war is carried out. So we get someone who wants to hold the line for negotiations or do we get someone more in line with the really hardliners in Russia who say crazy crap like using nukes in the war.

??????Russian media are increasingly talking about the resignation of Shoigu and Gerasimov after the agreement!

??According to some information, according to Lukashenko's plan, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will resign, and Prigozhin will focus on projects in Africa.

It was the fastest civil war ??

I didn’t really understand Prigs motives last night or this morning and I understand even less now.

Likely boils down to power and money for him. So what has he been promised and does he really believe it will be fulfilled?

The optics of this are terrible for Russia. This is basically a bloodless coup.

If reports that deal includes MOD shake up are true it may be the off ramp Putin needs to exit UKR. Scapegoat the chateau generals. New narrative may be something along lines Putin along with his long time pal (a regular self made boy from St Petersburg) saved the people and troops from fat cat corrupt generals. He looks weaker now from outside but who knows what messaging can work on the psyche of Russians.

If Putin doesn't get Prigozhin's head on a spike then Putin has to be considered absolutely weak and powerless. This was a military coup attempt.

ETA: Still not believing there was a deal until I see videos of Wagner forces withdrawing...
