The overwhelming majority of the pipeline already exists. You just have to reverse the flow and clean out the pipe.
It'd be a lot more cost effective then you'd imagine.

The quote in your signature is one of my all-time favorite quotes from Monty Python.
quote:
I think strange women, lying in ponds distributing swords, seems a perfectly reasonable foundation for a system of government.

You might try listening to the Walter Report, which is a Twitter Space covering the invasion, 24/7. Lots of former military folks on there giving updates & insights.

What ever happened to the second main cruiser (or destroyer) the U's "might" have sunk? Was it ever confirmed to have sunk, or has it been sighted again?
Oryx does not show the frigate down so there is no solid intelligence that it was damaged/sunk. One of the autists determined the drone video was not of the correct ship, multiple things about the drone flight speed and altitude was also wrong given the type of drone it would have been to have the telemetry it had on screen.

over 1,000 feet uphill.
Underselling it. There are water tunnels all through the divide for water diversion. Of course, you'd need pumps to reverse the flow, but really the goal would be to get water to the front range. Let the water they divert from the west slope just melt out and end up in the Colorado. Then send the additional fraction you need from the ridiculous water diversion project we're entertaining here through the existing diversion tunnels. Though that would be at least 4000-5000 feet uphill just to the divide.

God so many Poor for Putin cheerleaders
I haven’t seen many in this thread, who are they?
I do see plenty of people white-knighting for Ukraine who would rather see billions of dollars of money we don’t have go to Ukraine instead of needy US Citizens.
Sad.

Yea, I do listen to it. Good stuff.

Below is an excerpt from Peter Pomeranstsev's Nothing is True and Everything is Possible.
quote:
The weekly news roundup show is on. The well-dressed presenter walks across the well-made set and into shot, briskly summing up the week’s events, all seemingly quite normal. Then suddenly he’ll twirl around to camera 2, and before you know it he’s talking about how the West is sunk in the slough of homosexuality, and only Holy Russia can save the world from Gay-Europa, and how among us all are the fifth columnists, the secret Western spies who dress themselves up as anticorruption activists but are actually all CIA. (Who else would dare to criticize the President?) The West, he’ll say, is sponsoring anti-Russian “fascists” in Ukraine, and all of them are out to get Russia and take away its oil; the American-sponsored fascists are crucifying Russian children on the squares of Ukrainian towns because the West is organizing a genocide against us Russians, and there are women crying on camera saying how they were threatened by roving gangs of Russia-haters, and of course only the President can make this right, and that’s why Russia did the right thing to annex Crimea, why it’s right to arm and send mercenaries to Ukraine, and this is just the beginning of the great new conflict between Russia and the West.
When you go to check (through friends, news wires...) to see whether there really are fascists taking over Ukraine or whether there are children being crucified, you find it’s all untrue, and the women who said they saw it all are actually hired extras dressed up as “eye-witnesses,” and the whole line between fact and fiction on television has become irrelevant. But even when you know the whole justification for the President’s war is fabricated, even when you fathom that the real reason is to create a story to keep the President all-powerful and help us all forget about the melting money, the lies are told so often that after a while you find yourself nodding because it’s hard to get your head around the idea that they are lying quite so much and quite so brazenly—and at some level you feel that if they can lie so much and get away with it, doesn’t that mean they have real power, the power to define what is true and what isn’t? Wouldn’t you do better just to nod anyway?

there are also some that just dont like spending money or getting involved in any foreign conflict. 99% of the time i am in that camp as are many in this thread. Difference is this time, we are getting a ROI on our spending in the form of getting china to back the frick off, expansion of our allies, and a weakening of russia without a single American soldier lost.
Just to be clear I'm referring to people that vocally support Russia and want it to have its way with Ukraine. That's the subset I'm referencing.

So just to be clear, you're for the increase of welfare and other social programs in this country?

It's really good and a nice blend of memoir, reporting, character sketches from a number of types we more in America media now. This is Not Propaganda is his more recent book and it's more political and topical on global authoritarian disinfo.

I am very much for significant increases in investment for necessary programs like foster care, child nutrition and health care, as well as infrastructure changes and maintenance.
And I also see that the substantial benefit to cost of the military support of Ukraine against Russian expansion. It's a pay now or pay later situation with Russia. As long as Russia is on the march, invading other countries in this manner, there can be no peace. This is still a small investment to isolate and diminish Russia, to the benefit of the US.
It's also been extremely well handled by the administration and allies who have all assisted Ukrainians in defending Ukraine without placing their (our) own people in harm's way.
I suspect that anyone who expresses an objection based on the cost of military support is not genuinely devoted to reducing public spending. It's just a cover for another ideology.

Hence my question to him. I see a bunch of conservative types saying we should be spending that money to help people here in the US, yet they are also very much opposed to welfare and social programs.
As I've said before, I detest hypocrisy, and I will call it out...no matter which side it's on.

It's on its way.
You should check out Mr. Putin by Fiona Hill if you haven't already. I'm only about a quarter through it because it's so damn rich with assessment. A slow digest for me.

Putin is literally Hitler
I'm pretty sure that Hitler is literally dead. Ironically enough it was the Russians that got his corpse (fair enough).
History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme. Putin is doing a good Hitler impersonation. Even the Germans can see that now. We might as well stand up to his nuclear bluff now while he's fairly weak and we can stamp it out. Rather than wait until he's on the borders of the Baltic states and can overrun them very quickly, after he's had a chance to modernize his army with petrodollars. Putin has not been shy about stating his goals.
Money spent in Ukraine is relatively cheap now compared to where this will go if Ukraine falls. And confronting Russia now is less dangerous than doing it in a decade. There are always going to be nuclear bullies. If we reward Russia for nuclear threats then every country in the world will work towards building the bomb. The only rational answer is to not give an inch to nuclear threats.
