What do y'all see in Winston that I don't?

I don't get it.

He’s grown in maturity. He’s talented. Gotten a lot smarter. He proved that he can actually be a good starting quarterback under CSP.

The question is who else potentially AVAILABLE is better?
I guess the Saints could try to trade for Russell Wilson, but I doubt Seattle lets him out of town.
The Saints will be picking at 18 in the draft. It is doubtful one of the top QBs will be available at that time. Even then, none of them look to be surefire franchise QBs.
In a perfect, video game world, the Saints would trade for Pat Mahomes. But we live in the real world. Is Winston the best QB in the NFL? Of course not. Is he the best realistically available QB for the Saints? Maybe.

Smart. Cannon for an arm. Pretty underrated scrambler. Seems to have turned into a leader. Unlimited upside. Entering his prime.

He was able to work through his progressions. Limited his YOLO throws. And it appeared that the 2019 stats were the anomaly instead of the norm. Sure the 14.5 interceptions a year in the 4 years prior aren't ideal, but would put him more towards the middle of the pack for QBs
Also, he did all of this without MT, Tre'Quan, and Vennett. Trautman, Calloway, and the rest of the receivers not named AK were struggling to get separation early in the season and would often drop catchable passes.

We were 5-2 with him as a starter. He threw 14 TDs and only 3 picks. And this is with next to no weapons on offense.
We know that he CAN be a volume passer when needed, he did it in Tampa.
We know that he has matured a lot.
We know that he is a cultural mainstay on the team and has heavy leadership qualities.
We know that he has ridiculous natural talent as a 1st overall pick.
Yes there are better options out there just in terms of talent, like Wilson, but I think for the price and what we would have to give up to get someone like that, Jameis is probably our best bet. I like the guy and think that he could easily become our long term starter and be above average.

The question is what does the OP see in the other shitty QBs we trotted out there? Winston is not the next Brees, but Payton can win with him.

Disagree with this and all similar takes. Getting an elite QB gives you a better chance at a championship regardless.
That seems unlikely though...so I'm fine with running it back with Jameis. Shorter deal the better though.

It does, but it goes back to at what cost. Saints are going to be $50-60M over the increased cap because they chased 1 last ring for Brees. Sure, Loomis will get the team under, but that's going to come at the cost of kicking the can down another 2-3 years while the cap continues to grow.
You make a trade for an elite QB, you are giving up draft picks, which would be cheaper roster spots while you try to get out of the cap hell, and you then have to pay top dollar for the elite QB. You will certainly be in the running for a championship, but you will have a thin roster, and will have to lose some core talent to stay under the cap. Then in 5 or so years you are now in a worse spot then you were now because you invested so heavily for that elite guy and lost those years of rookie contracts. Win 1-2 championships, absolutely worth it. But, there is no guarantee, and if you don't that's where you normally see people losing their jobs.

This. All of it. That's why you sign Winston. Try and keep your defense in tact. Sign or draft a receiver. Sign if draft o lineman. That's what made the 16 to 20 team good. Saints had good depth. We can use this draft the same way

I watched a guy play good football for 6 + games, who, for the most part, took care of the football to the tune of 14 TDs and 3 ints. I watched a guy his teammates clearly supported. With our defense, we are obviously a playoff level team with him at QB. How far is the only question.

That he was on pace for 34 TD on 7ints

He is very Brooksish, and I don't mean skin tone. Arm talent, a little athletic, and can make the deep throws. Also a bit of a bonehead.

He was also on pace for a 3,100 yard passing season over 17 games. He was last in NFL.

A team that is working with thin margins on salary cap like ours cannot afford to give up massive amounts of draft capital for a QB, because then you cut off your only way of getting more talent for the team

Just turned 28 years old, has a lifetime of experience in the NFL, seems to have learned from his mistakes.
Like everyone alluded to, who is a better option? Anybody in the draft?
I think he's done enough to merit another year, and we're in the same position we were before... If he's good we pay up, and if not we get a great pick or we're right back where we are now in a worst case scenario

If you don’t get it after the QBs we had to play this year, you will likely never get it. Sorry you are bad at understanding things. Prayers and best wishes for future cognitive functioning.

Who effing cares? Are we shooting for Brees numbers when we had NO defense? or are we looking for WINS? With this defense we don't need a 5000yard QB. We need exactly the type of play he gave us this year. We would have won 12-14 games if he was healthy the entire year, probably won the division and have a bye.

there's not a qb in the draft with more talent or potential than winston. he'll be 26 this year. i say do what we need to do to keep him. won't be much of a cap hit either.
