I didnt find anything he said to be disagreeable. Was all spot on. Griffin really has been a disaster for this franchise.
At this point, we are relying on luck to keep the LA 1st and our own 1st in New Orleans, instead of Memphis. It never should have come to this. The last two off-seasons have been terrible for us. Simply atrocious management from our FO.

This is the wrong way of looking at things. The pels could certainly use another first rounder.
You act like the pels are bursting with young talent.

Absolutely not. You all beat your d*ck when you found out we gave Ball away for scraps. Anyone who questioned the trade was made to seem like some Big Baller Brand groupie. Any analyst, writer or commentator who disagreed had their credibility & knowledge of the team, city & game of basketball challenged by the forklift drivers, gas station cashiers, 19 year old accountant majors & porn addicts that pollute this board daily. All of which probably weren’t good enough to make their 2A senior high team. That’s what you cock suckers do. The only past coach or GM I haven’t seen y’all beg to come back (after y’all shitted on them their last 2 or 3 years here) is SVG & it’s because of his political stance. If he said Tramp 2024 today y’all would want Willie Green fired tomorrow.
BTW, at this point if you think Zion isn’t at least mildly irritated by the Ball trade you’re a fricking moron.

The problem with the Ball deal was always that we didn't get something for him despite helping Chicago acquire him yet we gave up a protected 1st for Graham with Charlotte loaded at guards. Lonzo himself isn't some player worth dwelling on. He's a good player who I feel is overpaid. Chicago is 5-0 in the last 5 games without him. I'm not saying they are better without him the way people were insinuating about Ja but I don't know if he has shown himself to be a needle mover. Would we be better with him this season? I think so but that is more a failure on the team to fill the position than it is a credit to his skills.

The problem w the Ball deal was it was a bad deal.
Graham is irrelevant because we could’ve had both.

That should be the end of the conversation. Although he’s not overpaid, his contract is more team friendly every season, making him a better trade piece, if something better presents itself but the fact that you followed that with
Tells me that you’re unwilling to give Lonzo any credit for any success his teams have, despite evidence proving otherwise.

Lonzo is a solid role player, a 3rd or 4th option on offense.
That's exactly his role in Chicago.
Now being honest 20million is a lot for a role player, however, losing him for nothing might be worse.
We on the other hand need basketball talent overall.

We are very much in the thick of the playoff hunt, and that's with missing our best player the entire season, the 2nd best player for long stretches, the 3rd best player recently, and the 4th best player for stretches.
We have talent to compete, we don't have enough to push us over the hump to being a championship contender yet though

we saw him on pels.
improved during pels stint but not a guy you see succeeding in 2nd round action. the Vision: throws ball away on break with game on line trying for highlight when just getting a good shot is called for. he still cant take it to the hole like Rileys Heat men all do.
2 griffin was terrified of the agent.
was scared zo would do davis sit out.

Trust me, I'm optimistic and a sunshine pumper, however the truth is we let a talented basketball player go for nothing.
When those mistakes occur frequently, they can become the downfall of building teams.
We should be a playoff team when fully healthy, but the truth is we're better with Lonzo than we are with Satoransky and temple.

Temple pretty much single handily led the comeback against the Cavs by hitting 5 clutch 3's in a row. Something Lonzo has never done, Lonzo is a classic good in the first 40 minutes of a game but shrinks when the spotlight is on and you need him to step up.
I don't think we let him go for nothing, we got a return, may not have been a great return, but that's what happens when another team wants to overpay a RFA and you don't want to pay that guy that much.
Personally, add Lonzo and take away Temple and Sato, and we are still sitting at the same record we currently have at best, while having less developmental minutes for Herb, less minutes for Hart to handle the ball and work on that aspect of his game, no trade exception, and no 10 million dollar expiring salary to send out in a trade, and probably no Devonte.
At worst it's a neutral trade to me, maybe could've gotten Chicago to give up a protected 1st like they did for Demar, but that's about it.

…and we’ve gained flexibility and cap space. Sato is expiring. Frankly I like Temple a lot. Automatic on the corner 3 and plays good D. Great vet presence and locker room guy.
Now… do we trust the front office to use that cap space well. If they do, then I still say we win that trade. If they don’t then we may as well have kept him.
Hopefully it’s part of a bigger strategy. We’ll see
I like Zo but not 20 mil Zo.

Disagree with this, a lot.
The media narrative was absolutely destroying us when Zions side leaked all that bullshite before FA. “The Pelicans had to kill this offseason to have any hope of keeping Zion.”
How quickly we forget eh? He shot for the fences but couldn’t get Lowry or CP3 to commit. Had he not gone after them, he’d be getting crushed for “standing pat.”
RE: Lonzo
To me the question is, would you rather have Lonzo or Hart and Graham?
This team is in hell without them two and only Lonzo right now. He’s a perfect fit in Chicago as their 4th option and facilitator, but don’t expect me to buy that he’d be leading us to an over .500 record right now being probably our 2-3rd best option most nights. He’s too passive, it just what it is. And that’s too rich for 20M for what this team needs to still establish.
Posted on 1/2/22 at 10:44 am to Brettesaurus Rex
Lonzo is fools gold. Hard pass at 20M.

Well the entire core of the team besides Val is all under 26 of BI(24), Zion(21), Herb(23), Graham(26) Hart(26), Kira(20), NAW(23). That’s 7 rotational players.
Plus potential young talent in: Murphy(21) and Hayes(21)
Don’t think having more young guys is the answer for us.

Really I mean more developmental projects. Nothing wrong with young guns if they know how to play.

So we basically have 5 young guys plus Murphy.
The truth is young or not so young doesn't matter, we need better players. We're playing multiple guys every night who are far below average players.

And Temple had absolute clunkers this year where his abysmal shooting showed up in close games.

Same can be said of BI, however Graham and BI now seem to hvae some synergy the past month in closing games as a team.

That's also poor leverage on Griffin's part. Graham costed us 2 2nds or a 1st (depending on our record). Chicago traded Lauri away for a 1st. We absolutely lost.

I'd argue we'd be better because that's 30 minutes per game of not having to use sato, temple, and NAW.
Even if you kept Lonzo, Herb still gets minutes because they're contributing different roles. Maybe Hart handles the ball a bit less, but they're essentially using Hart in Zion's role, so that's not a definite either.

We lost. We didn't get ransacked, but we lost.
Cleveland sent a lotto-protected 1st AND Portland sent Derrick jones jr (who is contributing solid minutes) for Cleveland to get Lauri.
We got a 2024 2nd. That's as good as just saying its cash.

The truth is we have constantly changed coaches and reshuffled the roster due to roster changes and injuries. All of this coincided with the changes due to Covid-19. If the team got healthy and pushed everyone to their natural position in the rotation the Pels are probably looking more like a mid seed in the playoffs with developing young players.
The whole Lonzo thing was weird, but I wonder if griff was just trying to rid himself of the toxicity of Clutch and JJ’s whininess about the organization. Since NOLA is a small market we can’t stand up to the negative PR created by these immature players and adversarial biased big market media.

I said this multiple times it was stupid to even entertain the thought of going after those two. Dinwiddle I would have been ok with because he was alot younger.
With their age, they would just be using us as an early retirement check. Especially with Zion out, could you see either them playing? They’d be faking injuries.

He's shooting 39% from 3 this season. Everyone has bad shooting games, even Steph Curry doesn't go 5/10 every night.

BI doesn't disappear in the big moments, he still tries to close games out. Lonzo tries to stay away from the ball in close games, much like Simmons.
quote:
Graham costed us 2 2nds or a 1st
Any team in the league would give up 2 2nds for Graham, and 90% of them would have given up a lottery protected 1st for him at the deadline last year. This is nowhere near a bad trade.
quote:
Cleveland sent a lotto-protected 1st AND Portland sent Derrick jones jr (who is contributing solid minutes) for Cleveland to get Lauri.
Portland sent a lottery protected 1st to Chicago for them eating DJJ contract who was considered a negative contract at the time, and currently it doesn't look like Chicago will be getting that pick since Portland is a dumpster fire.
quote:
Even if you kept Lonzo, Herb still gets minutes
He still gets minutes, but probably not nearly as many.
quote:
We got a 2024 2nd
And Graham, and a 10 million dollar contract to trade, and a steady veteran hometown presence that the young guys look up to and respect, which is kind of big for this team. You know Herb gained alot more respect for Garret when he stood up to that ref for him, something no other vet we've brought in would have done.
