This board will be no doubt relieved that I've changed my opinion. Great show.
Previously I got 4-6 episodes in and gave up as the characters were being set up. I'm in season two now. Elmore Leonard is some salty earth as a backbone, and I'd like to be Oliphant.

Season 2 was good. Justified is one of those shows that continue to get better and better.

Doing probably my 4th rewatch right now.
Just about to finish up with season 1. Raylan may be my favorite character in all of TV history. My 15 year old son is rewatching it with us, and after every episode he just says, "This show is SO good."

Season 2 with Margo Martindale as Mags Bennett was probably one of the best seasons of any show on TV.

So Goggins is from the south. It’s not surprising he has a believable southern drawl. But Oliphant grew up in Hawaii. Best southern accent by an actor not from the south.
Boyd/Raylan is one of the best duos in a show of all time.

Similar to the OP, I fizzled out after 5-6 episodes and just wasn’t that into it (despite loving Wilton Goggins generally). Guess I need to give it another shot.

I watched the pilot when it first aired and absolutely loved it. I went out of town for two weeks missing the next two episodes, and my friend told me they weren’t very good, especially compared to the pilot.
He was right. They weren’t; however, I liked the characters enough, plus the pilot showed me just how good the show could be, so I stuck it out. Glad I did! This is my all time favorite tv series.
Here’s the deal. They couldn’t decide if they wanted to be episodic or long form story driven, so the first several episodes were highly inconsistent. About midway through S1 they found their groove, and it rocks all the way to the series finale. They found that proper balance of being episodic and long form, and they got it right throughout.
The payoff is worth the journey as the finale is up there with Cheers as the best ending to a series. It’s absolute perfection.
Do not give up on this series. Stick through the awkward start and you’ll be glad you did

100% this. I tell everyone when I suggest this series to them this exact thing. Get through the first half season and it becomes one of the best series ever.

Agree with this but season 5 has Michael Rapaport as a bad guy and he is just awful.
