Currently dealing with a tyrant who clearly can't interpret the bylaws regarding the lease of my home.

The literal only function of mine is for tge 50 year old Karen who runs it to feel important. She posts about trash day and makes a post for every holiday.....that's literally it.

HOA’s are about as useful as a poop flavored lollipop. Why would I pay money every month to an organization that mismanages money and have to ask permission to paint my house agreeable grey?

Not really, I read the by laws before moving in and didnt find anything too outlandish
However, it does big me to have neighbors who don't acknowledge them whatsoever.

The bylaws were reviewed by a real estate attorney prior to the lease. Lien on what grounds exactly?

HOAs are nothing more than a big Ponzi scheme.
Don’t live in one, but did once. They won’t do shite when threatened. They’re in the business of making easy money not fighting for Karen at the end of the day.

Are you the renter or the rentee? As a person who owns several investment properties in the area, I can tell you first hand that HOA's are already more of a dick to renters right from the jump. You need to take a stand and make aware whomever the president of the association is that you're not going to take any shite. That usually backs them off a little bit.

General Use Covenants
All homes in X subdivision shall be used for residential purposes only, with only the main structure utilized for residence. No trailer, R.V. or accessory can be used as a residence, temporarily or permanently, other than the main single-family dwelling. No commercial use of any property is permitted other than a standard home office, from which no customers or clients come and go, nor manufactured products are made and sold. No apartments, multi-family rentals, fraternity, or sorority houses, group homes for the rehabilitation of unrelated individuals to the extent allowed by law, retail shops, beauty shops, churches, schools, or group assembly halls, (as an illustrative listing), are permitted. Short-term rentals of less than six months are specifically designated as commercial use and are prohibited. No dwelling may be subdivided for sale or utilized as a time-share unit.
My tenant is in a year lease and residential leases are not considered "commercial use."
Tell me I'm wrong though.

I don't mind HOAs but giving someone that kind of legal power over my property bothers me

Man I might be the only person on TD that WISHES we had a HOA. Not having one is 100% driving down the property values in our subdivision with people who just refuse to show even a little pride of ownership and let their place look like dogshit. The developer never filed paperwork to make the HOA official and by the time other residents noticed that ship had sailed, the majority voted against forming one.
Satisfyingly enough one of the biggest anti-HOA neighbor is the lady who lives right next to the neighborhood sewer plant, of which the HOA was raising money to do away with the plant and tie into city sewer. So enjoy your noisy shite smelly morning dumbass.

Was your request denied? Of course it wasn't. That function exists so that someone wanting to paint theirs fluorescent pink can have a documented denial.

why shouldn't someone be allowed to paint their house fluorescent pink?
