Get rid of your grill brushes folks. I work in an OR and about once a year we wind up operating on someone who has ingested a piece of brush wire that found its way from the grill, into the food and into the wall of their small intestine. It's amazing how small a piece of wire can cause such a huge problem.

I had a small piece of wire that got caught in the back of my throat. It was stuck for about a week before I was able to get it loose. Sucked.

I recently made the switch to grill combs

I let my wire brush for the pool go too long, once. brushed the pool before a party and everyone had metal needles stuck in their feet.

I stopped using a brush a long time ago. Either have a cleaning brick or one of those brushless cleaners.

I switched to wadded up aluminum foil and tongs a few years back.

I get a quality welders wire brush.
Change yearly.
There's a big difference; I'm not saying I can't lose bristles, but I've been using them for years and it's night and day with a bs cheap grill brush.

This has been known for years.

I like the change yearly tip.
Also I brush the grates with a paper towel soaked with cooking oil. I like to think I pick up any wires sticking to the grill.

I’d be bristled if that happened to my kid, glad the doctor didn’t just brush this off.

That’s the same one I use. Works well and leaves no wire bristles

Nothing enhances the flavor of grilled food better than well charred remains of previously grilled food. I never scrape. That grill at Cory's in Tigerland back in the mid 90s was never cleaned and that was the best chicken sandwich I've ever eaten to this day.

Just threw my wire brush out, it had seen better days.

It’s still wire, just maybe less likely to break and fray.

I like that one posted a couple posts above. May look into getting one of those.
But:
Of all of the thousands and thousands of people grilling (who knows how many times per year) around the OP's hospital, this happening only once a year isn't really newsworthy.
