LSU could absolutely match whatever salary Texas offers. It's the extra perks you get from the Texas boosters LSU can't compete with.

Exactly. That's all you need to say about that situation.

I think it is going to take that to get Fisher from Florida St unless he is just in love with LSU for some reason. That being the case, why wouldn't we pay 6-7 million (or even a little more if that's what it takes ) to get our #1 target.

Herman is the hot commodity out there right now. 4.5-5 million is just delusional. Going to take a lot more than that.

got to beleive Fishers agent is going to play LSU against Florida St and test just how badly LSU does want Fisher. Which mean Fisher could wind up being the highest paid coach in college football, higher than Saban or Meyer.

If that's the case, why not pay out the arse for the coach we would really want or do we play it tight and hire a Fedora

to be honest, I was surprised by the responses you got in this thread. I had figured 7 - 7.5 million to get Herman. He is a hot commodity and we are definitely not going to get him by low balling him with a 4-5 million dollar offer., Does he deserve to be the highest paid coach in college football based on his resume? No. Will he wind up the highest paid coach at the end of this? quite possibly.

It's just the circumstances. Would probably take that to pull Fisher from Florida St as well anyway.

If we are not willing to do that, then we look at the other coaches, Fedora, Mullin, Fleck, Klieman, etc. Probably could find a great coach that is the right fit for a lot less money. It's a crap shoot anyway with any one we hire.

LSU pays as much as any college in Texas if you add all the pay for the coaching staff. I'm guessing if Herman is the coach, we won't pay 1.5 mil to his OC like we did for cam

This only happens if Texas and LSU start out bidding each other. Hermans agent would get laughed off the table if he came in asking for more than saban makes.

He's probably worth 5 at this point. Anything more is just the market screwing itself.

Nick Saban makes just over 7. We aren't paying Herman more than 6.

5.5 sounds about right.

$5.5 mil + $2.25 mil buyout = $7.75 mil for Herman. It's still a lot cheaper than Jimbo, $6 mil + $5 mil buyout = $11 mil to get Jimbo. It's no brain who is cheaper and with more upside potential. All out for Herman.

Everyone says LSU can't go head to head with Texas in a bidding war. While I do agree that Texas has deeper pockets. They haven't shown a willingness in the past to pay what it would take to win a bidding war.

False. Charlie Strong is paid more than Les was. A lot more.

Texas paid Charlie over $5 million a year for squat. Herman could easily get $7 million a year. It doesn't matter what Nick Saban makes.

This is stupid. So a program is going to pay Herman more than saban?

All this talk about Texas Big wallet. IF they are willing to pay Herman more than the greatest coach in our era and possibly of all time, then let them have him.

If you want Herman, you pay up to harbaugh money. If someone wants to be stupid and pay more, let them do it.

Herman is a hot guy right now. There have been 100's of herman's over the years. Maybe he'll be the next Urban Meyer, maybe he'll be the next tommy Bowden, Rich rod, Strong, Hallman, Houston Nutt, Malzahn, franklin, etc.

I look at his history, he's rarely stayed anywhere longer than two or three years. We don't know what Houston would look like with all his players in year four. His time at Iowa state was suspect. I'm not diminishing him as a candidate. I Just don't understand all this 10 million dollar man talk when he has a lot to prove yet.

So, yes. Lsu can afford Herman. They can pay Saban Money, however, if texas wants to make him the highest paid coach in America, then let them do it. Just don't see where he's earned that right, yet.

If either program pays him more than a proven legend like Saban, they are stupid.

I would pay him between 5-6 and incentivize the hell out of his contract.

$1 million bonus for winning the NC which would put him over 7 mil if he won it all.

That's just smart business.

And TX was dumb as frick paying all that money to a guy like Charlie Strong to begin with. Dude would have left UL for much less to coach at UT. I wonder what's left on his contract to buyout, not that it matters. I'm just curious.

I don't think these points have been stressed enough.

Texas is firing Strong 2.5 years in. Time provided to win has never been shorter for these coaches in high profile gigs.

well what do you think it would take to pull Fisher from Florida St?

He is going to want to get paid substantially more than what Florida St. would be willing to pay in order to make a lateral move like this. Doesn't he make about 5 mill right now? Florida St would surely match up to 6 mill, then we would have to beat that. So you are looking at 6.5 - 7 mill to land Fisher.

So either guy you are looking at Saban type money.

Either we pay Saban money or go after the second tier type guys, which might not be a bad option. I kind of like Fedora. Fleck seems ok also. Just would need to look at a bunch of these guys and find the one we are overlooking right now. The sleeper pick.

I think we should hire Herman at 5-6 mil. Then throw in lets say 3 mil for a SEC championship win and 4 mil for a Natty.

So if he wins the Natty this guy will be at 12 to 13 mil??? Wow, glad you are not running the program. This is how you make it where there is nobody in the stadium except for corp. tickets.

You start over paying for a coach and if it doesn't work....... you can easily mortgage the future. Look at the pro teams who over spend and tell me how that works out, usually not worth a damn.

It's like a bunch of drunk sailors that just hit the shore, ya'll are ready to spend every damn penny LSU has.
