You guys say that, but Texas will pay >5M for Herman and Saban isnt available. With amount of high profile positions that are looking to be open by end of this year, they have all the leverage.
this is nonsense cooked up by message boards and a talk shows because people don't understand marginal differences. They also confuse the University Endowment (aka "oil money") with the Athletic Department. Now, their AD does make the most money, but not by so much that they can just overspend and price people out of the market. This is not Yankees vs A's in salaries circa 2002. They will pay the market rate. They paid Strong $5M, the next coach will be in that range. Certainly within LSU's budget, so it will all depend on Herman's preference. Not this fantasy that Texas will out spend every one by a ridiculous amount.

I bet they start at 4-5 and then it will be a 'who will go higher' contest between the two schools.
Texas wins that
why? this is not no-limit hold where the guy with the biggest stack can push everyone around, besides Texas' stack is not so much bigger anyway.
If Herman wants to go to Texas, he'll go to Texas, if he wants to go to LSU, he'll go to LSU.

If that's the case this board is worthless. No one here knows what he's thinking.

This is kinda ridiculous. Salary won't be a deciding factor bc both programs will be able to match whichever offer (and I'm sure both programs will have a ceiling for his salary). The deciding factor will be which is the best fit for he and his family.
Both schools will give him the chance to succeed.

If you want him, it would probably mean a long term contract with a big buy out to show him we want him for the long haul...whereas he could be 3 and out at UT.

If Texas is willing to pay the man $7-10m I hope we do get into a bidding war just to make them pay that. And then go to Jimbo with like $5.5.

Not really, there is a ceiling on coache's salaries, especially one that has not one single national championship. LSU can pay dollar for dollar with anyone in the country. In fact LSU pays on average more than most schools especially when you consider coordinators.

Would they? Probably.
Does it matter? No.
Herman is going to Texas; Jimbeaux to LSU.

Can they, yes, like I have said there are two lsu alumni that never get mentioned who can add zeros to checks without batting an eye. However it will not come to that.

I think LSU winds up paying Jimbo 6 to 7 million.

Tom Graves is one , who is the other?
Posted on 10/12/16 at 7:25 pm to H-Town Tiger
I'm hearing that LSU higher ups are afraid of getting into a bidding war with Texas over Herman so that possibility is kind of scaring them away. Jimbo is the clear number one.

Ask yourself this question.
You have the option of choosing between two schools to coach at.
You will be making around the same amount of money.
The first school is in a talent rich state with little to no competition, has a great defense with your buddy, one of the best DC's in college football, coaching them, and a lot of talent on offense that goes underutilized. They pay their coaches better than most teams in college if not all of them, and you'll be able to come in since you're an offensive minded coach and compete for championships from the word go and play in the best division in college football.
The other school is also in a talent rich state, although with a lot more competition, the city is nicer, but the defense is horrible and the whole team has to be rebuilt, you can't bring your O.C. with you because he got kicked out of UT, you are in a terrible conference which would seem easier but all of the teams can score just as well as you can and if you do happen to drop a game then you can kiss that playoff birth goodbye.
Which school would you choose?

Texas will over pay for whoever they hire next. Their ego gets in the way every time.

LSU got Saban to coach at LSU. Texas didn't.
