0% chance we fire Sumlin for going 9-3.

Yeah, but the upcoming loss to Texas Tech in the Texas bowl will be the final nail in his coffin. 9-4.

Sure they can. SEC programs are set to make over $40 million a piece this year. At that rate we will see $10 million coaches soon.

Based almost entirely on TV contracts, and that is a bubble that may be getting ready to burst.

Most of the media contracts run at least another 8-15 years. The ACC is tied up until the mid 2030s.

I think there would be a bidding war. Its a do or die for Texas and LSU at this point.

Maybe, maybe not. If coach O does well the rest of the season, we won't be paying a coach more than Saban to come here when we can have O for 3 million. Honestly, I don't care how "hot" a coach looks right now. You don't pay one Saban money who has never competed in the SEC. Winning at Houston and winning in the SEC are two totally different things.

I also don't see Texas offering that kind of money to him either. If you are going to do that, why not make Saban an offer he can't refuse? Ten million a year would easily pull Saban from Bama to Texas.

Nah, Bama would match it.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I didn't mean 7 mil for winning both and those were just arbitrary numbers I threw out there. Just saying use that type formula.

If that's true, schools should offer him insane amounts of money just to make Bama pay more.

No, my logic is that Texas has proven its new coaching salaries are not based on logic (Charlie makes $5 million because Sumlin does, no other reason) and therefore if you get in a pissing match with them they will go far beyond reason to prove that they are the best (read: richest) in their minds. They will call LSU's or anybody's bluff.

Aside from what Strong makes (and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a different AD right now?) what other coaching hires recently has Texas thrown around stupid money?

Also - I think they overpaid for Strong now based on the results but based on his resume at the time it wasn't astronomical. Not as extreme as paying Herman 7.5 mil which some have suggested. I think their good ole boys either blew it or got played by Saban/Sexton (or both) and had to come up with something.....and Strong was the best they could pull.

Oh, ok. More reasonable for sure, but I think a $7 million base for a coach who has only 2 years as a head coach and never having competed in the SEC or any other major conference just sounds excessive to me. I do like the incentives for reaching landmarks though.

IF he were to fail then you are probably looking at a $30 plus million mistake..... there are only 2 or 3 coaches in college football that I think should be offered that kind of money.

Then throw in lets say 3 mil for a SEC championship win and 4 mil for a Natty.

Tom Herman will decide whether he wants the LSU gig before UTexas fires Strong IF they even fire Strong this year.

LSU is a more stable situation than UT and has EVERYTHING already present to be a champion. That is NOT true in Austin.

I assume that is a troll Aggie. They were willing to pay Satan 20 Million plus a year. Even with oil being down I will say the same thing I told Bama fans, Ut could buy Bama and LSU and still have plenty of change left over. We can not win a bidding war with them, no one can.

LSU pays its assistant coaches more than any program in the country does. Including Texas.

Texas probably has more money to pay head coaches though.
