why would a team NOT pay whatever to get a winning coach when they haven't had a winning record in 10 years?

Les hasn't done anything to deserve this kind of bashing. I'm happy for the guy and hope he does well at Kansas.

Les can recruit- that I will give him credit for! The players always loved him & flashing that championship ring to recruits looks impressive...

What coach is going there??

A young up and comer isn't risking his coaching career making that move.

You almost need an established coach, and what other established coach is coming there.

It's a win/win for both parties.

It's a great job because there won't be any pressure so if he wins even a little, it is a success.. and if he does not.. it wasn't really expected any ways.

I hope they can win more games and Les is quite successful. It's going to be fun to observe.

Les will go out and be able to load a team like Kansas up with 3 stars from la and texas. Maybe add in four or five 4 stars recruits and he could be on to something, Kansas would be a lot better than they are now.

Don't quite understand the hate for Les

He wasn't a bad coach, he did a lot of great things between LSU and Okie State

It was just time to move on

In my professional opinion, Les is there to build the foundation and get the program back to bowl games. Then, when he's either ready to retire or has peaked out Long can go out and get a guy to bring it to the next level. There aren't many guys out there like Les that can instill values and recruit. I think he will be worth every penny to that program.

That's essentially the basic premise of the hire and he's absolutely the right choice for a situation like this.

Kansas should be very grateful and extremely optimistic about their football programs future going forward. A program that's in this bad of shape has a very small chance to obtain a quality head coach with a high level of experience and success.

Now, Kansas has a coach with a nationally known name who won conference and national championships while coaching in the toughest college football division. This was an extremely smart and "low risk" hire by Kansas.

Kansas will be a completely different team in a few years.
By year 4 under Les, KU will be in the Big 12 Title conversation with OU, Texas, and TCU/OkSt, if they get back on track.

Book it. Just like when he was at OkSt, the Big 12 is not equipped to handle his complex blocking and running schemes. Les is going to have fun in the Big 12 once he has his own recruits humming.

Especially the 5 tackles he will put on the offensive line

Agreed.

He's worth $20 million over 5 years. Kansas got a helluva deal.
