People that don't want Coach O want someone with proven success
People that do want Coach O want him for potential success
Sure Coach O could lead us to success but why turn down others that have already proven to be successful for someone that has potential to do it?

After reading some of the coaching experts on this board I was convinced that Coach O was the only person who ever coached the Ole Miss football team and had a losing record.
But then I went to look at this weekend's LSU-Ole Miss boxscore I noticed Hugh Freeze is currently only 3-4 with Auburn, A&M, and MS St as their tougher remaining games. I have heard Hugh is a pretty good coach. Just don't see it - if he really is a good coach how could he possibly have a losing record at Ole Miss.
You're a fricking idiot. FYI.

The question is whether his years of experience at big time programs (Miami, USC, Tennessee, LSU) and and his two interim gigs override his lack of head coaching success at Ole Miss.
Spoiler alert, they don't

Would your opinion change if he was hired permanently and won the SEC next season?

Miles players, amirite?

I was at the OM game in 2015. I with my own eyes saw him jawing back and forth with OM fans in the stands from the LSU sideline. He was so worked up he wanted to fight. I have no idea how no cameras caught this and it didnt get out. That shows me he cannot keep his cool and his professionalism when things get tough. Not HC material to me.

why do people not like coach O
I mean, i love the guy, and am totally appreciative of what's he's done for this team and LSU thus far. I'm just not comfortable handing the reigns to him for whatever reason.

Just wondering, I enjoyed that.
He also missed the "y" on your when he copied the text so he said "Our hero" when referring to Herman. It was a comical Freudian slip. I'm sure he will be back on loop again somewhere on this board. We should probably be more sensitive to his illness the words "Tom Herman" obviously trigger him.

It's like watching your kid constantly falling over on his new bike, taking it from him, and doing some sweet jumps and wheelies.

Eta - I am approaching this hire as a business move...not a personal one
It's on you, Joe. You allowed politics to sway you last year. Don't let the fans sway you this year.

I'm not even sure why people bother to respond sometimes. He thinks he's bringing up good points, it's kind of funny.
He put me in melt mode the other day. Then i realized how absurd it was to let this guy provoke me. I was just having fun last night because i was play by play calling his comments. His melt and conspiracy theory had me rolling.
And yes. Now that i know his little anti herman record he plays on repeat this guy is just hilarious.

They are ashamed to admit just how bad miles had them fooled.

We don't dislike O. We just dislike people like this claiming we should just skip the search and hand O the job based off a half season with a loaded team juiced up on emotion.

And I don't dislike Herman, but I just dislike people who want to hand this guy the keys to our program based off a win against a Florida State team that didn't want to be playing against Houston in a bowl game and a win against an Oklahoma team that's given up 40 points or more in over half their games, while at the same time losing to powerhouse programs like Navy and SMU.
There is no such thing as a sure bet. I want to wait and see how everything plays out first before trying to name a coach in October. Of course, like everyone here, I have no say so in it, so it's really a moot point.

Yes, I think y'all should be more objective.
You're wanting to hand the program over to a guy with a very losing record, just because he isn't miles and has won a few games.
In pretty sure you said the other day that O had already won the job in your eyes no matter what happens the rest of the year.
That's not being objective at all.

I don't really disagree with you overall. I think you maybe downplaying those wins a bit and ignoring his time at tOSU. Definitely a high risk high reward kinda guy if he were to come here.
I could definitely understand wanting to take jimbo, kelly, petrino, or one of the big names as a safer bet to succeed.
I just cannot understand wanting to crown O over one of these guys even if he wins out or loses to just Alabama. When you objectively look at O he should be considered as high or higher risk than Herman.

Well, considering that tOSU has fared pretty damn well without Herman the last year and a half, does give me pause. His time there doesn't show me that he can build and sustain a program.
Now remember, our program IS built. Just because Miles didn't have the on field success that he should have doesn't mean our program is down. The cupboard is stocked. We need someone to bring it to it's on paper potential. Coach O is getting an opportunity to do that right now. It remains to be seen how he will fare in that regard. I'd be lying if I said I wanted him to lose a game or two so he won't be named head coach. I'm LSU through and through, and want us to win every game. If he does run the gauntlet unscathed and we end up in the SECCG with potential higher goals within our reach, it would be very tough for me to say, "thanks for your service, O, we're going in a different direction."
At the same time, LSU should keep all their options open. There's at least a month left where a lot of things can happen. It'll play out and we'll know a whole lot more come the first Monday of December.
