You're right. We should've never hired Saban because he was an NFL risk.

CMON BRO.

we didn't hire Petrino because he's an awful interviewer and a POS.

Lol. I said potential ceiling. The reason being his overall resume is much more impressive than O's to this point. I know you won't accept that, but it doesn't mean it's wrong.

Could he fail? Of course, but over the course of his OC and HC career he seems to have done quite well. Obviously losses are concerning, but O has many more. He also flopped at Ole Miss. Does it mean he flops at LSU? No.

Hence my statement:

quote:

Herman has more mass appeal because of his potential ceiling

I wont be carrying on this circular argument with you any further after this post, fyi. I understand you're ust trying to illicit some sort of anger out of me in my response. Just wanted to clarify i said potential. Not guaranteed.

Oh I've seen it. Even went and looked again this morning after reading a Tiger Droppings article about the Ole Miss coach's quotes about LSU and Coach O.

quote:

Ben Garrett @SpiritBen Freeze, on O's Ole Miss tenure: “People are not patient. I think we had recruited really well under Ed. It was close to turning a corner.”

The guy after CEO went:
2008 Ole Miss 9–4 5–3 2nd (West) W Cotton 15-14

2009 Ole Miss 9–4 4–4 3rd (West) W Cotton 21-20

2010 Ole Miss 4–8 1–7 6th (West)

2011 Ole Miss 2–10 0–8

Looks like Hugh Freeze may have been right. The next coach - Houston Nutt did pretty good until Coach O's players started leaving the program. Not too well after the O-effect wore off.

Trust me man, it's best to ignore Tiger Ree when discussing Herman. He HATES the guy. Nothing you will ever say or present to him would even make it possible for him to admit the guy has a lot of potential.

The story goes: he lost 3 games he should have won and he kisses his players. Anything you say that opposes that view is met with the same two points above. That's all that matters to him when evaluating Herman. Trust me i wasted way to much time trying to discuss this with him.

So your argument is that he can recruit well, but he couldn't find a way to match his talent level when he was actually coach until another came in after him and utilized the talent for a short while while it lasted?

What other situation do you think could possibly compare to that?

Man you live in a black and white world. Hiring 101. Gather information on all canadates who want the job. Determine the ones you THINK will be the best. Negotiate with 1st choice. If an agreement is made hire and hope for best. If not repeat with second etc.

Saban was not a sure thing coming out of Michigan State. Let's be honest, we knew he was a POS when he coached us but he was our POS. Now he's Bama's POS. I'm glad he's not married to my daughter. He runs around and is overbearing. But if he wanted to come back, I'd take him right now! Petrino is a POS also. But as college HC he is damn good. Petrino blew the Skip interview because Skip did NOT want to go through loosing a good coach after a few years again. Petrino was not a big enough POS to just lie, he tried to avoid but Skip was on to him. Imagin Skips surprise if Les had left for Michigan during his 1st NC run!

I am not saying hire Herman, O, or Petrino now. We are still in phase 1 gather info of those interested. Officially only O is at this point, but I bet dozens are on the unofficial list!

he's beat big time programs at a non Power 5 conference

Who has? The Herminator? His two big wins while at a non-power 5 were against FSU last year in a bowl game and Oklahoma the first game of this season.

FSU: Let me speculate like I have seen others in this thread do. Ha no, not going to tell you how much potential ceiling a person has (like I could really judge that by watching football games on TV).

No my speculation for the FSU game is that FSU the previous season had gone 13-1 with their only loss coming in the playoffs. Here a year later they find themselves in the Chik-Fil-A peach bowl on 12/31 against Houston. Let down? Maybe. LSU fans would be if that happened to LSU. Maybe had trouble getting up for Houston to end the season.

FSU is only 5-2 this year with there biggest wins against 4-3 Miami and close game against Ole Miss. Maybe Houston caught them at the beginning of a possible slide.

Oklahoma: Is Oklahoma really that good this year? I mean what is OU's most impressive win this year - Texas(3-4) 45-40 or TCU(4-3) 52-46? I know they beat Tx Tech 66-59 in a BASKETBALL game this past weekend.

Not too impressive to me. Losing to SMU cancels out both of those wins with the Navy loss and poor performance at Tulsa to spare.

Tell me how he coordinated a 3rd string QB to beat a Saban team, and go ahead and tell me how that doesn't count either. I'll wait

His resume or Urban Meyer's resume?

Herman has been a head coach for how long?

I didn't realize he was the overall team coordinator for Ohio State. For some reason I just thought he did offense.

If any candidate for the LSU head coaching position has the potential to be a one-season-wonder it is Hermonster.

Lol. Dude, you're in for a very frustrating night if you keep trying to entertain him. Like i said and he said it exactly like i called it " two losses to navy and smu erase it all." That's his while shtick. That and he doesn't like the kissing thing, but he's quiet on that tonight. Best to just move on.

His response to your saban question will be Urban Meyer gets the credit not Herman...and the circle will continue.

Eta: hahahahaha i called that shite on herman as OC didn't i? Oh wow. That's too funny.

Well, as nice as it may be that Les did it also, I still don't think it will be regarded as the high-lite of tom Her-maneater's career.

Btw, just to warn you. If you ask him who he would want to coach or his top 3 then he will tell you he is not that arrogant to pick 3 people because he will wait for the season to play out.

He will do this while simultaneously telling you Herman shouldn't be the coach and that O's failures weren't his fault as evidenced in this thread. It's just a hopeless loop. Best to just ignore him because he will just loop back like a broken record with those two points and some dumb Herman puns.

How the frick would I know if some guy I have never even seen in person has potential. I could go bar hopping or to church with the SOB and still couldn't guess whether he had potential to be a great coach or wind up incarcerated in the Huntsville penitentiary.

You speculate shite like that and then state it as fact. You sir, are full of shite. Did you foresee the potential of 3 shitty games in a row by his top-10 ranked team? Did you bet big bucks and win a lot of money? Or is your potential lacking?

Yeah, pretty much. Not the first time it has happened and won't be the last. There is a long history in all levels of football of teams firing coaches to early. I brought up Pat Hill at Fresno State the other day and some guy who was really and still pissed off brought up an ex-Southern Miss coach. Powell or something.

So you're saying O had the potential to succeed at Ole Miss he was just fired too early. Got it. ;-)

He did a great job with that. Tell me why the 3rd stringer wasn't the starter all season. Maybe Hermavitar isn't that good of a judge of a player's ceiling potential, unlike another poster we have all seen in this thread.

Tell me how Herman beat a Saban coached team with no Urban Meyer, defense or special teams. It was truly an amazing feat to beat a team in all 3 phases of a game with just his offense and a 3rd string QB.

I like O a lot. I was freaking pumped when he can to lsu. I think he is excellent at what he does and is a great rep for LSU.

I also don't believe his resume is indicative a coach that should be hired to lead this program.

I don't believe that leading an pumped up, emotional, uber talented team gives enough reference to what he would be like as full time HC.

His past HC experience is just too much of an issue in my mind. Too hard to ignore, like most of you are willing to do.

This has nothing to do with 'liking' him.

Eta - I am approaching this hire as a business move...not a personal one.

We're now on track 2 of the record. Almost time we flip it to side B don't you think?
