1-he has a Cajun accent
2-he failed at ole miss 20 yrs ago
3-no one has offered him a HC gig

give the guy a chance. the next 4 games will tell us how good he is.

Thought he failed 10 years ago.
Accent doesn't mean shite when hiring a coach.
No one has offered him a HC gig because of his past failures.

4 games doesn't tell you whether someone can run a program long term.

Eta: he should prove himself elsewhere first. You act like people just hate O. I think most of us feel he has some good strengths but there are many other potential candidates that would be above him.

agreed. but he's got more to go. to dismiss a guy that has risk if foolhardy; every coach you hire has a risk associated with him. even the guy that walked on water just a few weeks ago.

Agreed. O's risk is just higher than others ahead of him on the job search.

I assume you mean Herman. Herman has more mass appeal because of his potential ceiling. We have seen what O can do. Herman may do better or not, but he's the more attractive candidate because he has had flashes of brilliance over his entire football career HC or OC. O has not had that many.

I think the biggest knock on Coach O is that he hasn't previously proved himself as a full-time head coach. The question is whether his years of experience at big time programs (Miami, USC, Tennessee, LSU) and and his two interim gigs override his lack of head coaching success at Ole Miss. I am not sold that Herman is a better option for LSU than O...

No offense, but we're so fricked with this line of thinking

Let me ask you this then. Do you think Herman has more upside than O?

lack of head coaching success at Ole Miss

After reading some of the coaching experts on this board I was convinced that Coach O was the only person who ever coached the Ole Miss football team and had a losing record.

But then I went to look at this weekend's LSU-Ole Miss boxscore I noticed Hugh Freeze is currently only 3-4 with Auburn, A&M, and MS St as their tougher remaining games. I have heard Hugh is a pretty good coach. Just don't see it - if he really is a good coach how could he possibly have a losing record at Ole Miss.

At the end of this year we will have 15 power 5 games to assess his potential as HC. People can often learn better lessons in failure! I'm not on or off the O wagon. Let's watch his performance.

I also am not sold on Herman. Can he and his system function and recruit in SEC. Who knows. His youth is a concern. How will he handle adversity. We may learn something as this season continues. I fear he is a 3-5 year coach. 3 if he fails, but will the NFL call him in 5 like Sabin. LSU is O's dream job. He could easily coach 10-15 years if successful.

You wanna go ahead and compare the career records of the coaches that preceeded O at Ole Miss and the records of the coaches that followed O at Ole Miss? Get back to me with that info and then try to continue your point here.

Hugh Freeze @ Ole Miss 37-22, overall 67-29 and 4-1 in bowl games.

Coach O @ Ole Miss 10-25, overall 19-27 including interim jobs. No bowl appearances.

So you want a good coach, but not toooo good of a coach because he might leave for the NFL? Do you people even listen to yourselves?

I thought so too, but no. This is definitely for real based on his past posts.

Yep. Nevermind that this team hasn't seen this kind of offensive production in I don't know how long.

So somehow Herm has this unlimited sky-high potential? And someone out there knows that his potential is higher than another coaches based on what they have observed. Was Miss Cleo involved? Maybe the guy from last weeks episode of Atlanta?

Tom's potential ceiling could be to continue to lose to teams that shouldn't even be able to stay on the field with his team. The guy just went from the #6 ranked undefeated team to unranked in three short weeks. I don't even think Miles ever did that !!!

But, even though Houston lost to Tulsa and got bitch-slapped by SMU (the equivalent of LSU and Coach O losing to Vanderbilt 40-3) he has a much higher potential ceiling.

You're very loyal if nothing else. A little misguided perhaps, but loyal none-the-less. You must be related to the Hermster.

No. How about frick you and stop wanting a coach because he has a Cajun accent. What a fricktarded reason to want anyone as a coach.

And being the head coach of our rival and failing there should mean something.

He's done a fine job so far, but don't crown his arse yet.

he's beat big time programs at a non Power 5 conference. Game planned and won against some of the best coaches in America. You're gonna dismiss that because his team lost 2 games? He's built a nice little program that doesn't have near the depth that a big time program would offer. Herman is the real deal, that's why he needs to move on to bigger and better Things.

You are oversimplifying a hiring decision. Skip did not hire Petrino because he correctly feared that he would go NFL just like Sabin did. Thank goodness he hired Les who gave us years of success (2 NC games) and stability. Now I am open to Petrino. Proven success over many years. No longer an NFL target. Young enough to coach 10-15 years if successful.

No hire is ever a sure thing. You pays your money and you takes your chances!
