If Orgeron is that impressed with him, I’d love to know what Callaway’s vision would be for LSU’s offense. Not a fan of something like the “Air Raid” in the SEC and don’t think O is either.

Ftr I'm not shitting on Callaway. And I think air raid to a certain extent can work fine in sec. Mike leach version where you don't adjust at all.....na, but I don't think Callaway is that and neither is GH.

For those interested, Callaway has been under Chris hatcher for a while before coming here. Air raid concepts, here is one of his old playbooks

Isn't that part of his job description? Handle the media spin around the program?

It seems like he’s had a positive effect but QB coach/PGC seems more reasonable if he’s going to remain here for now. Which might be a strange fit for the new OC.

The kid sounds really good, but you can't just give him an OC job when he's just been an analyst on your staff. I say give him a position on the field and if he shows he's as good as advertised then you give him the position.

Yeah just saying take the bouquets theyre throwing Calloway’s way with a grain of salt.

Cool he gets there at 5am. Neat! Give him the job!

Oh highly thought of in the building? Well the guy that thinks highly of him has burned through OCs and just gave Bo Pelini 2mil a year sooo

I think Callaway needs a chance to prove himself. He is a workhorse who knows football inside and out.

Researched that he grew up his entire life (mostly SEC) with his dad coaching at Bama, Georgia, Auburn, USC.... Read articles that he was allowed on field (practice and games) with his dad and the other OC coaches learning from them when he was barely a teen. He was also a QB at Oconee HS...like Max.
He was QB and 2x Captain at Valdosta State helping them to National Champs. After his playing career was cut short, Callaway was a student assistant his senior year coaching QBs. He also coached on Saban’s staff for 2 years with Kirby Smart. Then, he coached successfully as OC/Receivers Coach and then as OC/QB Coach at Samford. Now, LSU QBs speak highly of him bc he knows football and QBs.

I believe he is going to be great and can’t wait to see him grow!

I think he did great at qb coach and the players like him, both good points.

I would love to know what he brought to the offense this year, if anyone knows specifically

Seeing as how we were running some mesh routes the last 2 games I’d say that he was involved. That’s a staple of Mike Leach Air Raid concepts, so idk who else it’d of come from...

Thanks for the research LCC.

Pluses for a role for RC: coach’s kid, played QB in college, has spent time learning & perfecting his craft, experience at LSU.

Only minus appears to be lack of experience.

He’s likely too green for OC job, but QB coach or PGC seem like good fits for him.

If this happens then I guess that means no Decoster as TE coach.

Calloway ain’t gonna be the OC. I think the announcement that he’ll be an on the field coach kinda indicates that.

Obviously not experienced in coaching. Doesn’t know how to recruit and his route trees consist of about 4 of them.

Gotta make sure he knows the “speed of the SEC”. Needs to learn the ropes before he takes a job since he’s really never been an OC before.

No, his Sanford OC experience counts, but do you feel that is enough to elevate him all the way from analyst to OC at LSU?
