Russ Callaway

quote:

Sources tell FootballScoop Russ Callaway is expected to be promoted to a full-time coaching position, potentially quarterbacks coach depending on who else Orgeron decides to bring in.

Hope this is true. Callaway sounds like a keeper that CEO needs to find a spot for.

I've said this before: if the guy is that good and you really want to keep him around, don't waste time on another OC that will be gone after a year or two because Callaway isn't going to want to be a QB coach or PGC for too long and is going to get the coordinator position from someone. Just let him take the reins.

Orgeron loves this shite.

I bet he was fuming about Pelini's work ethic.

You can’t get more Air Raid than Chris Hatcher & Murray State.

I did notice at the back end of the season we started running more Mesh.

I know it won't happen, but man I'd love Kendall Briles as OC with Callaway installing a lot of passing game packages to go with that Briles scheme.

again based on what? this article? Im not saying he isnt a great coach or wont be a great OC for us. But to just say we should stop wasting time interviewing other candidates is stupid.

have you done any real research on Russ? Do you even know what system he runs? How much does he rush the ball? Did Samfords offense get better once he took over?

you can find his stats here

LINK

did you know that Callaway comes from the Leach tree thru Chris Hatcher?

Thank God lsu777 is here to save us. I hope you are doing the hiring since you know it all. A couple of fans on a message board made a simple comment and you drew a lot of conclusions from it 1. I based this only on the "fluff piece" in the thread, 2. I've never researched this, 3. I've never coached football and don't know what I'm talking about. You seem angry. I hope you don't carry that into 2021. Geaux Tigers

Those are interesting stats but the problem is it's only half the story. I would like to know who the HC was during those years, what players each OC had to work with, etc. Numbers are helpful in making a decision but other factors outside of the OC's control could cause numbers to drop or rise. So I don't think this article or that link really give a complete picture.

well go ahead and give us your informed opinion. I would love to know more and Im not being a sarcastic arse hole and Im not angry. Its just every time Callaway is brought up, nobody can tell you why they want him, just that they do.

I wouldnt mind it at all, but I at least have researched it and am not basing it off a fluff piece like most are.

But go ahead and post your research if you dont mind. I am very interested in learning more.

to a certain extent yes but its also the job of the OC to get good players or atleast help get players of equal talent to your competition. Also its important that we look at number and not go off of feel or excuses. its blind resumes kind of thing.

You rank them from there. then you interview and see fit and vision and rank based off that.

Sometimes one ends up mattering way more than the other. Ed O is that example.

But bottomline results matter and the stats are the results.

We need to do what is necessary to keep him. By all accounts he is considered to be extremely bright and motivated.

I believe he can handle the role of being our OC, and I dont think it would take very long for him to excel at it either.

Keep coach Russ Callaway at LSU!!

If Orgeron is that impressed with him, I’d love to know what Callaway’s vision would be for LSU’s offense. Not a fan of something like the “Air Raid” in the SEC and don’t think O is either.

I'll entertain you by listing a few reasons why I like him.

For the sake of this argument I'll leave out the "fluff" about his dad's a well respected coach for a long time, he's well respected around the country yada yada.

He's served in multiple capacities in his coaching career and in each he has gotten the most out of the players he had. Look up the productivity of the QB's and receivers that he coached, not only as an OC, but also a position coach. Hell he had an FCS QB starting games in the NFL a couple of years ago.

He has been a recruiting coordinator so you know he doesn't shy away from recruiting.

His offenses have had great scoring, total, red zone numbers.

I'll end with he's young, he's hungry (yea fluff I know), and he's got great chemistry with these players. Look up some of the things players have said about him. Watch the videos of him dancing with them. If you've worked in a corporate environment you know that you can't just be good at the job, you have to fit the culture. I believe he does.

I'm not saying that he's the one and I'm not advocating for them to offer him and move on (I know I jokingly said make him OC and lets ride), but if he is the choice in the end, I'll be happy with it.
