With all the rumors of Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck getting thrown around, none of them have him staying in Kalamazoo. Until now. There’s the Purdue rumor, the Houston rumor, the Notre Dame rumor, the list goes on. Now the rumor is: he stays at WMU for $30,000,000 over 10 years. Sure it goes against “college football coach” logic. You make a name for yourself and take the next step. They’ve all done it.

It guess it would make sense for him to stay if they are trying to migrate to a bigger conference, which is doubtful. Very interesting. Would be unusual to see him stick around, especially when his stock is as high as it will ever be.

Fleck will only sign a deal with a guarantee for him but probably no buyout if he leaves

Lol wut. I have always maintained Kalamazoo is a great town and that Western had no reason not to be on top of the MAC. However, what boosters have that kind of money unless it's something like Stryker Corp or Bell's Beer willing to help?

for a commitment of 10 years, I bet that buyout is outrageous.

Seems like that would basically force him into leaving. Buyout gets high enough that he severely limits his other options.

The problem with that, is if the school really can't afford it, then his assistant coaches and facilities/recruiting budgets take a hit, which causes a death spiral.

If true, I guess we'll see how much he really loves Kalamazoo.

I would not take that deal.

That averages $3 million per year.

Look at how much coaches were getting paid 10 years ago vs what they are being paid today. I wonder how much that will be 10 years from now.
