Early December is fun

Which means Cristobal is heading there.

Would be quite awkward for Miami to have two head coaches.

I love that the hire of the new coach was made public prior to any firing of the old coach...AND it all happened without an AD. Miami is such a shite show.

They didn't want to get him to help Cristobal move into his office?

This Miami ordeal has been totally bizarre and really looks low class from my perspective.

I don't know why Cristobal didn't take the Miami job when it opened up a couple of years back. He had just taken the Oregon job and people thought he'd change his mind.

Because Miami's garbage AD at the time (Blake James) didn't even bother to contact Mario. Instead, he only called Diaz, who had just taken the Temple job, and brought him back.

Also, Mario and Blake didn't like one another. The only way Mario was going to take the Miami job this time was if Blake James was out and he would be given the $ and resources to do things the right way. Miami has agreed to all of his terms, which is why Mario is coming home.

Finally, Miami is playing big boy football again after nearly 20 years of the administration not giving a damn. They can thank Kirk Herbstreit for that....he exposed them on national TV and they understood the bad PR and wanted to change it ASAP.

It's also worth noting that Miami is also bringing in Clemson's AD. They aren't playing around.

I sort of feel bad for him. Everybody acknowledges that Miami's support for the football program has been garbage, but then they criticize Diaz for sucking.

He only got 3 years, went 8-3 last season, and quietly won 5 of 6 to end this season, even with D'Eriq King injured since week 3.

That's great if Miami wants to care about football again, but I'll believe it when I see it. Simply bringing Cristobal home isn't enough to make them instantly better IMO.

About time they shot that horse. What a way to fumble that up.

This has been an Alleva level transition. Such an embarrassment.

Possibly but nobody will make Miami relevant again

Those days and that way of building a program is gone

Why do you think Miami will never be relevant again? With the right coach I'm sure they can turn it around. Mark Richt had them in a New Years 6 bowl in his second season. With Clemson falling back down to earth the ACC is wide open. They also happen to be located in one of the most talent rich areas in the country.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Hurricanes and Seminoles bounce back. Nebraska on the other hand, that's one blue blood that will never return to glory.

I put Tennessee in that category too after Fulmer resigned.

Apparently these talks have been going on since November. No wonder Oregon started to Tank.

I heard he hated Oregon and the Nike a-hole really badly.

His agent actually reached out to LSU 3-4 weeks ago about the job to kick the tires. LSU wasn't going to pay a 9 million buy out for Cristobal so that killed any movement.

But stuff like that happens dozens of times in these coaching searches in you just never hear about it.

Miami, Tennessee, Nebraska, Notre Dame...all products of a different era. Adapt expectations to the modern college football landscape.
