Penn State is truly a dumpster fire administration lest we forget the pedo debacle under Paterno.

They could frick up a one float parade.

I really thought that is who they were targetting.

AD either has diamond hands or is a complete idiot.

With this being so late, why would anyone want this job now? A few weeks ago, perhaps - but now? A 128th ranking in the recruiting class leaves a significant amount of ground to make up. It will certainly be interesting to see how things move forward.

You ever heard of the transfer portal?

I still can't believe they passed on Hartline. They must only want someone with HC experience. BK would actually be a decent fit who could bring some stability to the program. I guess Chip Kelly is also available (at least until anOSU re-hires him to take over for Hartline).

What a horrific post, on multiple fronts

They went hard after a Tongan American Mormon with virtually no experience outside of Utah and surrounding areas.

That doesn't sound like a team with an ace in the hole coaching in the playoffs
Good point. Whole thing is crazy.

Perhaps. But it's at a university with a very specific recruiting advantage that would not exist at Penn St.. The draw for good players of the Mormon faith is BYU, not Sitake. If he were to leave BYU that recruiting base largely dries up. The Mormon players aren't going to attend Penn St just to play for a specific coach. They are going to still attend BYU because its BYU.

There's not exactly a great track record elsewhere for guys who left BYU. Crowton struggled in most of his 4 seasons there. Mendenhall left for Virginia and had one really good season. BYU is a unique school. It's a place where a good coach can have success...but that's largely due because of the school's unique recruiting advantage.

One of the first coaches they talked to was Urban Meyer. They might have thought they could make that happen and why they made the move early on Franklin, to try to be the first to scoop up Urban. Then supposedly they couldnt agree on NIL packages. Im also surprised his name didnt come up at Florida.

It’s far more likely that they are just dumb. Most ADs are.

And no chicken littles, Lane Kiffin is not going to Bama if Deboer leaves.

What dont yall get? They whiffed on all their targets and are scrambling.

They aren't keeping some secret. They would've told all their recruits. They lost all their recruits expect 1 kid.

Whoever their waiting on better be fricking worth it, because they're program is completely tanking at this point. No recruiting class to speak of, transfer portal coming open in less than a month.....that whole administration should be fired at this point . Penn State thinks they're something they're not, and this coaching cycle is proving that loudly. If it's Deboer for whatever crazy reason, then that's great, but at the same time, they'll need a couple of years to recover from this regardless.

Yeah, I might could have believed that Sitake's agent might have known that PSU has a guy on lockdown and finagled an insincere offer out of them to get his guy a raise, but not once the cult leaders at the LDS had to get involved and basically order Sitake not to go.

Agreed. I would have expected a tweet from a PSU commit along the lines of, "Just found out who the new coach is going to be... WOW!!!" if they had someone lined up. It really does look like they've completely struck out on all of their targets and now they're just sitting there, coachless and recruitless.

He is a good coach where he is that had huge risk moving from BYU to PSU. If you can't see that, I don't what to tell you. He has a roster with a ton of 4th/5th year Mormons every year. He would have an entirely new type of "recruit", a much higher reliance on NIL and portal, in an entirely new part of the country, in a program that wants wins immediately.

Great coaches one place don't always translate to great coaches in an entirely different place.

I agree, but I think what he did this year was pretty damn impressive. He lost the BYJew at the 11th hour and turned to awful arse Hank Bachmeir’s brother to play quarterback and is one win away from the playoff.

Pretty impressive coaching job
