I have some Family that tailgates with Parents of a player. That player came by the tailgate Friday night. He told them that Riley would be the guy.

Cool, now lets see your proof that he wasn't offered. What about Shae and others reporting that it wasn't Riley the entire time? They were just wrong or what?

I could make the exact same argument for him not getting an offer

You think Woodward is telling players anything about the search? The players were getting the same info as all the other insiders here. That info likely came from boosters who were straight up wrong and then the rumor took on a life of it's own in the echo chamber.

A lot of our fans are extremely credulous and unsophisticated. They are easily manipulated by fairly transparent damage control strategies. Rather than believing the simplest explanation - and the one most consistent with all the evidence - they choose instead to embrace elaborate conspiracy theories that Riley's agents somehow sowed disinformation amongst numerous insiders on various LSU and OU boards, and that reports of Riley accepting the LSU job just happened to magically coincide with his actual departure from OU, and that it was just another massive coincidence that LSU had a press conference scheduled for the day after Riley's departure, and another coincidence that Dellinger was at Bedlam, and that the recruits who were saying LSU was hiring Riley were just coincidentally regurgitating the same rumors, and that all the media reporting contact between LSU and Riley (including Dellinger) are mistaken and have been duped by the minions of discord, and that all the articles about Stoops being a backup plan are wrong, and the fact that no other coach was announced yesterday was yet another coincidence, and that Woodward from his underground command center has orchestrated some improbable grand plan that has yet to be revealed to the dazed masses.

It's sad.

You realize coaches aren't "offered" if its not 100% that they're signing. Doesn't mean negotiations didn't take place or numbers weren't discussed.

The problem here is someone waited 2 months to be left out in the cold.

For all intents and purposes, riley to USC was done four weeks ago or more… What in the world do you mean by ‘offered?’

All the recent smoke and mirrors is the work of riley’s agent, a gullible sports media and a rapid fan base

Moscona literally reported that we had heavy negotiations that included counters. I started a thread but it was deleted

Cullota and Jordy kept saying he wasn't the guy on Saturday. Seems plausible he was never offered.

Where is your evidence? Anyone can make claims, but without evidence to back it up, it’s meaningless.

I 100% don’t. I would believe that a verbal discussion took place, in which tentative numbers were discussed. That’s how this works. Discussions happen, but they’re not wasting their time drawing up and sending out offers to everyone.

Who gives a shite if he was offered?

He’s going to USC, it’s done. Coaching searches have twists and turns….it’s par for the course, here and everywhere when there’s a high profile opening.

Bama wanted RichRod, and got turned down. They then pivoted to Saban. I’d say things worked out. It happens all the time in coaching searches. LSU wanted Herman and he had an offer… he chose texas over LSU… I’d say it worked out.

Worst-case scenario…we wanted Riley and Riley chose USC over LSU….okay, so be it….you move on and find another good coach.

(I don’t believe Riley and LSU was ever a legit possibility, but my main point is even if he was and chose USC over us, what does it even matter?)

This. Thank you.

It doesn’t really matter, folks. It isn’t the end of the world, either.

Well…it could be. But not because of THIS.

Moscona "reported" information from the same sources who fed TBL, Vol, 1977 and others. Not one single, credible journalist ever corroborated the story.

You really think Lonn Sullivan had the real scoop?

Bottom line is, this was probably a rumor what was going around in booster circles and took on a life of it's own. It seems like nobody actually knows what's going on inside Woodward's inner circle.
