I’m not saying he’s the guy but everyone’s talking about his 14-12 coaching record. Those are basically one year stops. He did not recruit any of those kids at Colorado or Michigan State but still managed to be competitive. That tells me he’s getting the most out of what he has to work with. Not saying he’s the guy for LSU but he’s going to win a lot of games somewhere.

He is

He also shouldn’t be a top possibility unless Woodward swings and misses on about 30 other candidates

They just see him as the diversity candidate vs the guy that led championship defenses under Saban and Kirby.

I do blame Mascona for creating that narrative.

I 100% for the Mel Tucker hire.

There is virtually nothing on Tucker's head coaching resume to make a determination one way or another.

5-7, and 2-5 in his first seasons isn't "competitive". 7-0 in his 2nd season at MSU with a bunch of transfers, and his toughest games remaining, doesn't show much yet in terms of program building either.

I think he can be successful, too. At Michigan State.

need to see how he finishes this season.

that normally wouldn't be huge deal for a guy with a longer track record as hfc.

needs to win at least 9 games, prolly needs to upset one of ohiost, mich or pennst.

That's my problem with him...I want to see how he does with his own players...and if he can sustain a program for four years...it is essentially the same knock on Aranda.

This is kind of the problem. He hasn’t shown any ability to build and sustain a program. He is also called an ace recruiter but that sort of remains to be seen.

Oh and 14-12 is not competitive, we just let a guy go for that.

At this stage, with nobody ruled out, I’m not sure why he is in the conversation. We could do much worse but could also do much better.

Lastly, he has job hopped into a very healthy salary. He won’t be particularly cheap

Mel Tucker at 6.5 to 7 million should not even considered, period. Paying that much for a 14-12 unproven high risk coach would be totally absurd. Other SEC would be laughing at us (privately of course, because they would love the hire),

There’s a reason why Tucker is making $5.6 million. Saban called the AD at MSU and lobbied for Tucker; told the AD to pay whatever you have to, to get Tucker out of Colorado.

I think he’s a solid choice and would not be disappointed to hear that he got the job

I think there’s an element out there that think hiring Tucker or even Franklin would be done ONLY because of skin color. I challenge that thought process

Speaking of recruiting:

2022: No. 18
2021: No. 46
2020: No. 44

Tuckers sample size is just too small We don't know if he can maintain recruiting at an elite level or if he can manage a major program long-term.

The next six weeks will tell us a lot more.

It might not be the only but it’s most of it. What other coaches are they considering with a 14-12 record making 5.6 MILLION. And don’t say Napier, he only makes 2 million, significantly less.

I'm sorry, when did he lead championship defenses?
He was a DB coach at Alabama in 2015, and then spent 3 seasons at Georgia. Last time I checked, "1980" is still a popular jab on the SECrant.
