I think Lane is a good (not great) coach, but somebody is about to massively over pay. Compare that to coaches like DeBoer who is 19-3 against the top 25, or Kirby who is 38-17 vs. top 25 (and a lot of those losses are to one team, Alabama).

So, the Ole Miss job is equal to the Washington, Alabama, and UGA job? Y'all need to stop and touch grass.

You are comparing different tier programs.

Well, compare the situations that all three took over. And what is his record the last three years since he built up OM?

People today have the memory of a gold fish. Lane is doing well this year and now all of a sudden he is MUST GET CANT MISS hire!

Spare me Lane, the money he would cost and all his little snarky tweets

In the era of a 12 team playoff (with further expansion possible) does this matter as much as it used to?

Win all the games you are supposed to. Lose to the monster. Sit out the conference championship game and rest your players/ work on practice. Still get in the playoffs and host your first game on campus. Then use your regular season loss as a motivation / revenge tour.

Everybody wants a juggernaut but the longer the season gets and the more "professional" the sport becomes then the more we need to start evaluating by pro standards - losses are expected but it's who and when you lose those that matter most.

Outside of DeBoer, Kirby, Day and Dabo, how many coaches have a winning record against top 25 opponents?

He’s like .500 against ranked teams the last 2.5 seasons though. Getting better.

That and comparing programs that will routinely face teams in the top 5 or 10, to some that will face teams barely in the top 25.

No, some people who think Kiffin will come here and suddenly change his stripes and be better need to reconcile this is the exact line of reasoning that got Kelly to LSU.

“Once he gets to LSU with our resources and access to elite talent, he’ll get the money off his back and start winning the big games.”

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Kiffin is already winning the big games now at Ole Miss. BK never won anything but y'all believed ND's academic restrictions were holding him back despite ND being a top 10 producer of NFL talent under BK.

Are you insinuating he wasn't doing well before this season?

Last time LSU had a vacancy, Kiffin had just earned Ole Miss a Sugar Bowl berth and he wanted to come to Baton Rouge.

No, I am insinuating that his recent success is being amplified amongst LSU fans.

As Ole Miss head coach and in his 6th season:
10-13 against ranked opponents
28-17 against the SEC
0 SEC Championship appearances
0 College Football Playoff Appearances

But yeah, let’s bring him in and he will be able to bring us all these national titles, SEC titles and playoff appearances!

Kirby took over a program in pretty damn good shape that average 10 wins a year for the 4 years before he took over.

UGA the 4 years before Kirby was 12-2, 8-5, 10-3 and 10-3.

UW sucked under Lake because of the abrupt departure Petersen, but DeBoer also was coaching in a Pac 12 that had become a joke overall. Then goes to take over a Bama team that was a playoff participant just 1 month earlier and which Saban had built. Oh and he lost to a bunch of unranked teams last year too despite that.

Both are very good to great coaches, but that argument is more about what they took over.

What? Some of you need to look at his record before you post.

Against the Big 6 in the SEC, he has a .350 win percentage at OM. That’s not impressive at all and especially when you consider AU, UF and LSU have all had some pretty dumpster fire seasons in that stretch.

He’s not winning the big games. Just like Kelly wasn’t.

Kiffin is a pass for me.
