That would be as nearly hilarious as the Knoxville foolishness.

Aggy boxed itself into a corner this year with the AD's comments about winning before the season. They had to fire Sumlin basically no matter what. Now what they didn't anticipate was the mass exodus of coaches that took place and now find themselves competing with a lot of schools. There are definitely more openings than candidates this year, so they will be over-paying regardless of who they get.

If I’m FSU I say bye! The guy flirts every year and he has a downward trend the last 4 years.

Well he flirts with other schools because FSU has not shown a commitment to supporting the football program in facilities and staff compensation.
As for the downward trend - anyone who thinks Jimbo is anything but an absolute top tier coach has lost their damn minds. FSU would be downgrading from Jimbo regardless of whom they end up hiring.

i think there's a good chance he goes if for no other reason than FSU has got to be getting sick of the games

Yeah he doesn't get nearly as much as he should there.

He's making plenty, but the facilities are sub-par and he can't keep assistants because they can't match the pay offered elsewhere.

We didn’t box ourselves into anything, either sumlin won more games than usual and he would be retained, or he wouldn’t. The results speak for themselves, we are tired of 7 and 8 win regular seasons so if he didn’t get 9 wins he was getting fired anyways regardless of what is going on at other schools.

Is there a chance he says no? Certainly. I’m sure FSU wants to keep Fischer around, he has won a NC for them. All we can do is offer what we want to pay for him and see, if he says no you just go on to the next one.

Jimbo is simply crazy if he rejects the terms I'm hearing. I think our AD is crazy for offering them

Honestly? I don’t see how Jimbo can given that Free Shoes sucked this season.

He can’t keep turning other jobs into raises if he can’t win at his current one.

aka boxing yourself in.
AND lets be honest - 9 wins wasn't going to do it either. Woodward set the tone early, and quite frankly the UCLA loss was the nail in Sumlin's coffin - nothing short of running the table at that point would have saved his job.

Aggy better hope Fisher jumps ship, because if he doesn't you will be downgrading at the HC position.

Again, all he had to do was show improvement. 9 wins with a win over bama, Auburn, or LSU (the most helpful) and a decent recruiting class would’ve been enough to say he was “improving” and give him another year or two to build for the future. That’s it, all he had to do was not have a 4th year of 8 wins, and he couldn’t even do that as we have 7.

If anybody boxed themselves in, it was sumlin. You don’t get paid a top 10 slalary to win 8 games of less every year.

He was razor close to being fired last year already so nothing this year really mattered unless he had an exceptionally good season.

Partially true, there’s not another proven coach as good as Fischer available but again, we know what we have in sumlin which is an 8 wins per season coach. Time to let someone else try the reigns and see if they can do better.

None. He’s got to know he can’t keep playing this game with FSU and expecting different results. This is the real deal this time. He’s the next Aggies coach.

It is pretty much what he said. You may see it as “boxed in” but I also think it was an appeal to the boosters who were extremely pissed he was retained after 2016. Woodward has his own job to worry about as well and knew there was zero chance he would be allowed to retain Sumlin after another year like 2016 which is exactly what we had

He said he had to win. If he won, he would still be the coach here. That isn't boxing yourself into a corner

See the post above, that’s pretty much exactly what he said.

Y’all would be surprised, despite the one regent’s Facebook post, there was still a sizable amount of boosters that wanted to continue to give him a chance and would have been completely on board for another year or two extension had he been able to show improvement and the team heading in a good direction.

That didn’t happen, so hear we are. Sumlin had every chance and opportunity afforded to him over 6 seasons.

Why? That’s what A&M is. Record speaks for itself. In the last 20 years y’all have 5 seasons with 9 or more regular season wins.
