I agree he’s better than where he is now but let’s pump the brakes a bit on Prime’s coaching credentials. I think a Memphis, Southern Miss, Houston level job would be a big enough step as he works to improve his resume. Win there and now you are no longer getting a job on name alone.

You need to ask Deion where HE wants to be. It's that simple.

Most schools in the P5 know that it takes more from head coach than getting recruits on campus to build a program. And we really don’t know how Neon would do in sure enough recruiting battles in a P5 conference. I get he brought in Travis Hunter and a few 4 star players to Jackson State and that’s impressive. But can he do it on a regular basis and can he seal the deal when he’s recruiting against other schools who want the same player AND will be playing against Prime’s team that season. That’s when the gloves come off. Then he also has to coach his teams against experienced game day coaches at the highest level of CFB with similar talent on the roster. I’m not saying he can’t be a successful P5 coach, but he’s also got a bit more to do to prove himself. It’s hardly a sham if he doesn’t get a P5 job this year- it’s just business.

Yea the world is really just holding that brotha down with his $40,000,000 net worth, ton of free publicity on ESPN even though he coaches a SWAC school, nothing but positive coverage overall, and the head coaching job that he chose to pursue at, specifically, a HBCU.

The system is so rigged that a guy who chose to coach a SWAC school is coaching a SWAC school. Damn smh

His shtick works at JSU because he’s bigger than JSU. At a big school he would actually have to know what he’s doing.
I’m sure he’d be able to recruit, which is a large part of it, but I think game planning would hurt him. He’d have to have great assistants like coach O, and as we saw those are hard to keep .

I'm starting to warm up to the Prime at Auburn talk, but if we pass on him, I want to see him in Bham. He would light a rocket under UAB.

No prestigious university would consider hiring him because of his character issues.

It would need to be a middle or lower tier p5 team desperate enough to win.

Can see him going somewhere like Memphis, ECU, ULL, etc

I think one of the Florida schools (USF, FAU, FIU, UCF) would be a good stepping stone for Prime if he doesn’t go power 5 this year.

Win at one of those schools and he is the next hot coach candidate IMO.

There has been a little smoke about this. Apparently Pete Thammel brought it up on a podcast or in an article or something, saying it would be similar to the Penny hire. Honestly, id be ok with it at this point. Our current coach isnt getting it done and the excitement around the program is all but gone.

I think he probably deserves a shot, but why does he deserve to jump straight from the SWAC to a P5 job? Maybe a job like Colorado or ASU. You know, places that don't have real championship expectations. There are plenty of candidates with much more experience and time coaching G5 schools or lifetime P5 coordinators who probably have a stronger resume as far as coaching experience.

I just watched a guy who came up in G5, had great success under a great coach fall flat on his face when he jumped to the SEC and the cutthroat environment it entails. There's more to coaching at the highest levels than winning the press conference.

Not to hijack the thread, but what has been the problem with Silverfield?

I figured Fuente and Norvell had left the program in solid enough shape for him to keep that thing humming for a while, particularly since he was an internal hire.

Also, would the school really ditch him after 3 years to go after Deion? It's not like Silverfield has been Larry Porter bad.

It doesn’t work that way. Build a resume of experience to move up the ladder. Harsin took two steps at once and you see what happened.
