re: If no power 5 at least offers deion sanders to coach their team…this whole thing a sham

Not to hijack the thread, but what has been the problem with Silverfield?
Honestly, there are quite a few problems.
1) Our high powered, quick tempo offense is gone. Our current OC seems to be under the impression that the spread and up tempo offenses are dead. That is how Memphis made a name for its self under Norvell.
2) Silverfield was hailed as an offense line specialist but our line is and has been so weak since he has been here. Cant run the ball and our qb is constantly running for his life.
3) It seems like every game we go up by double digits the staff takes the foot off the gas, no matter how much game is left. Its like this man game plans not to lose rather than to win
4) The thing that stick out to me most about him is that he made this whole big deal about how Memphis was his dream job and wants to be a lifer. Now, im a lifelong Memphis fan but im sorry, if thats your dream than man you have no aspirations in your career.
5) The Memphis job is a salesman's job, be it basketball or football. You essentially have to re-recruit the fan base every year as well. Sucks, but is what it is. Look at our most prized coaches, Calipari and Norvell, both could sell ice to an eskimo (or in our case fill an arena). Silverfield, isnt that. I get it, not everybody is built that way and thats fine. But i want my coach to show emotion and passion, this guy doesnt. And it shows in the fan commitment, the crowds that show up and the enthusiasm of the team. We played Temple a few weeks back and the sideline was absolutely dead. No movement, nobody getting excited, just guys sitting there.
Lastly, would they get rid of him after 3 years? I think it really depends. If they knew they had an absolute 99% shot with a young up an comer than absolutely. If that isnt the case and he finishes 7-5 with a decent bowl performance, probably not. Getting left out of the B12 was a big kick in the nuts to the program and the fan base. On top of that we have a new president and newish AD that seem content to just coast on what the folks before them did.
Sorry for the novel

but I think game planning would hurt him. He’d have to have great assistants like coach O, and as we saw those are hard to keep .
I mean
There’s a big difference in O and Deion when it comes to understanding football
One played at the very highest level and is in the HOF and the other is coach O
I’m sure Deion can hold his own game planning

Nah, I appreciate the insight.

I've heard some people talking about Deion, and they've all kind of said the same thing:
You have to interview him. Its just simply unknown whether he is a grinder that would put in the ridiculous amount of hours needed at big P5 job, and if he is the meticulous, anal type that succeeds in that job.

I mean look...I think Deion is a sharp guy, so this doesn't necessarily apply to him...
But CBs are not known for being geniuses. They have some of the lowest Wonderlic scores in football. Just because someone is an elite Cover corner doesn't mean they can gameplan to save their life

Deion has done a great job at JSU. But P5 is much too big of a jump straight out of SWAC-level football.
If he is serious about jumping up in the ranks. He should start off somewhere smaller such as a USM, GSU, FAU, etc. If shows that he can win at the G5 level, then you give him a shot.

Deon at JS is winning with superior talent, which is a positive that he can get those players, but I want to see him go against teams with equal talent and see what kind of coach he really is.

Would Prime still be SWAC though?

No, he wouldn’t be SWAC and them and Coach Prime are using each other

It doesn’t take much coaching to win in the SWAC with power 5 players. He’s not going to be able to out recruit the competition if he takes a huge step up. Conference USA or AAC to prove his coaching chops over Barstool Sports buying him a team.

Wasn’t this about putting HBCUs on the map? Wouldn’t everything he did be for nothing if he left so soon?
If he leaves doesn’t he prove everyone right that this is ultimately about prime and not the HBCUs and kids as he made it point to pretend it was?
Shouldn’t he be trying to pull more high profile coaches and players to HBCUs rather than looking to pack up and run while his stock is up?

He can make a coaching progression like anybody else: P5 is not the next step, unless it's to a basket-case program like Colorado (which would be interesting).

Pete Richardson should have gotten the Florida job after Spurrier. What a crock that he didn't.
