I think letting the Riley news go rampant will really kill this hire.

People got very excited and most names out there are just not at that same level which will just be a downgrade.
It may be a great hire, but just won't have the same impact.
LSU could have done better at squashing the rumors(if they really were rumors) before they got bad.
I don't think there is one name left that has been mentioned as a decent possibility that would really be homerun.

Matt Rhule would be a home run imo. But I'm not going to talk myself into it like most did with Riley. I'm just waiting for it to happen.. who knows who it'll be.

It won't "kill" the hire, it might melt this board, but the hire will be fine. Regardless of the hire, %50+ of this board will lose their minds. The hire on the other hand will do their thing and if they become a winner, all is forgiven regardless.

Not if you have just as strong if not stronger candidate and you want it to stay hush. Riley side just created a convenient smokescreen that keeps your real target out the public eye. Much like Matt Campbell smoke to USC. Ride that until your guy is locked in.

Looking back, I don’t think Lincoln would have been that great of a hire. We know that he can recruit QBs and maintain an already successful program but that’s it. Not sure he would do well in the sec going against saban, jimbo, Kiffin, leach, and the other coaches/athletes we have in this league. THE hire doesn’t need to “feel” good. It just needs to be good

If anything the LSU fan base now see Riley as soft and a clown. Thankful he isn’t the guy. Woodward knew this so honestly maybe SW is a genius in maneuvering.

Which raises another interesting question: if LSU had no interest in Riley and was being used as a "smoke screen", why didn't LSU just come out and announce directly or indirectly that it wasn't pursuing Riley? Just part of Woodward's inscrutable master plan.

Feldman said Riley wasn't going to happen two weeks ago. Dixon said Riley wasn't going to happen. Dellenger claimed to not know anything.

What admin are you talking about? It seems all that talk was generated by “reporters” who really didn’t know and people here just ran with it. I seriously doubt anybody on here posting is LSU administration

How do you STILL believe that the "riley news" went "rampant"??? It literally wasn't reported, at any point in time, by any well-respected CFB reporter.
