So what you're saying is there was only ONE qualified Black DC that can lead this LSU defense and that ONE left us at the altar, so now it's back to the good ole boy network? Is that the tune you're dancing too?

There were a couple high end Black DC candidates out there.

Freeman screwed us and Mason took another job. I dont Wanna go near Charlie Strong.

The tune were dancing too is we want to hire qualified individuals and we genuinely don’t care about race, but now that several of our best black candidates are elsewhere please don’t make it a race thing when we hire a white guy.

For me, I want what's best for LSU. I don't give a damn what race the DC is. I'm just sick of the USC/Pete Carrol connection bullshite. Go get an up and coming, attacking, aggressive DC that fits our style of play. You hired those qualities on offense, why not defense?

So all white coaches are part of the good ole boy network?

What an ignorant statement

They've probably vetted 8-10 guys by now and at least 3-5 are black

Where the frick did I say that? But to answer your question, the majority of the old school DC are part of the good ole boy network, they just happened to be white. Hell, for me Charlie Strong is in that category as he has had his chances, Willie Taggart is in that group, he has had his chances, so I don't give a frick about black/white or whatever. Well since Freeman left him at the altar, and he only have his second choice left, then it's the same because he's putting all his eggs in the Nielsen basket.

This is a moronic take.

You have to pick a candidate. He apparently picked Freeman. He chose Notre Dame. No one know who the second choice is, but if it is Nielsen, then he won't take the job until the playoffs are over.

So, whether he has one or a 100 coaches in his pocket, the timing is unchanged until Nielsen makes a decision.

People make assumptions, and then get irate pretending their assumptions are correct.

You have no idea how many coaches LSU has talked to, how big their basket is or how many eggs are in the basket.

Nielsen is in his early 40's so he's by no means a old coach. I'd rather find a DC that has had some success against modern CFB offenses, but Nielsen has 2 accomplishments I like a lot. He's a very good DL coach and he has a history of being a good recruiter.

If he gets the job and we find a hot shot LB coach I'll be happy. Let Corey coach all the DBs. I'm fine with that.

Eh, did you see the Saints defense against the Bears last night?? Nielsen would be a huge upgrade on our defense of last year. He is one of the best Defensive Line coaches in the NFL game today, he is a young dude, and he is known to be an excellent recruiter.

What exactly is the downside to having him be our DC? He may not have experience yet as a DC, but someone is going to hire him for a DC position, if not right now, very soon. Joe Brady had zero years experience as an offensive coordinator either, but I think we did alright in 2019.

He manages DL talent really well, he’s spent years learning a 4-2-5/5-1-5 under Dennis Allen and the Saints D have proven success. He was an incredible recruiter in college, 1 year all 4 of his DL got drafted from NC State. He’s young, full of energy, and I know y’all hate hearing this- but Coach O can trust him.
I've stated previously that I think this is the guy (Ryan Nielsen) that O really wants, but is fighting with Woodward over the Ultra Politically Correct Minority Hire BS.

Hopefully, it's a done deal and they are just waiting for the Saints season to conclude to announce it.....

I don’t mean on a personal level, I mean schematically. I don’t see O tampering with and not trusting the implementation of the D. Nielson’s(Saints/Allen’s) style and 4-2-5/5-1-5 attack oriented scheme is a wet dream for O. It’s exactly the system he wants, and he probably knows that Nielson knows this system better than himself and would trust him to execute it.

I like Nielsen as well

Every time a name is brought up the whole “what has he done” comes up. Whoever we hire people will cry and bitch about it
