This was the 1st season he was not being paid by Nebraska. Now he needs more than $200k per to survive. He probably could have returned as a DC at a P5 team and made more $$ after the layoff. Chose to stay a head coach and continue cashing his payout. Just FYI. Don't want to overpay, but that is the logic...

PFF reported earlier that it's mainly to do with Pelini not wanting to take his daughter out of her current high school before she graduated, and that he wants assurances from Youngstown State that his brother and the rest of the coaching staff will keep their jobs.

Dude just got over 6 million in payout and made over 20 million in 7 years at Nebraska. I think he is fine financially.

If Pelini leaves then why would Youngstown owe him any favors?

That’s a Pelini problem regarding his brother and his current staff...not an LSU or Youngstown problem.

They wouldn't
He is just trying to take care of his brother and staff.

Actually respect him for that

Unless they hired from within, I don't know how Youngstown State could go about finding a new HC and tell him that he couldn't bring any of his people over.

I think the thought process being reported was Carl (Bo's brother) would become the head coach and keep the staff so no one loses their job.

eta: just to clarify. this was reported as what Bo wanted.

Lol. That’s the stupidest damn thing I’ve ever heard of—so stupid, I call bullshite on it.

Why the hell would Youngstown State do any favors for BP when he is leaving? They’d give a long loud laugh at that.

You extract favors on the way in—“I’ll be your head coach and accept your contract offer, but my brother will be my offensive coordinator and you’ll pay him this much, etc.”

BTW, Youngstown State was a perennial FCS powerhouse. Under Pelini? Only five games over .500.

Like I wrote in another thread, Tressel had a payroll larger than the Bengals and the Browns. Youngstown doesn't have the money to compete with the Big 10, the Big 12, the ACC, the MAC, the American, and the OVC. All of which are within a 200 mile radius of Youngstown.

In the 90s. Their last playoff appearance was 2006 until Pelini took them in ‘16.

I think you are confusing CBP’s school employee salary ($200k) with his total compensation package.

CEO makes $500k from LSU and $4mm total, most of that is supplemental money from TAF.

From your link:
quote:

Pelini has now received $6.54 million from NU, which doesn’t have any former coaches or athletic directors left on its payroll.

If he NEEDS more than 200k to survive, his decision making might not be needed.
