I wonder why Dan Mullen isn't getting more interest for a head coaching gig anywhere. I get that his tenure at Florida ended in disarray, but he's won big at both Miss State and Florida. He's 103-61 in his 13 seasons in the SEC. He's been ranked in the top 4 multiple times in the playoff era. I wonder if he needs a rehab coaching job like Freeze needed at Liberty or an OC job at an SEC school. I wouldn't really think he would need a rehab job though because he has largely been successful in his career. I also know he probably wouldn't stray from the south. Y'all think Saban offers him the OC job? Maybe a school like Tulane would be interested? USF?

He isn't wet behind the ears. He is going to enjoy his buyout and ESPN gig and wait for the right opportunity, not hop in at the first chance.

I tend to agree.

Maybe he only wants a "big" job and no "big" jobs want him.

Maybe there were things behind the scenes at Florida that we don't fully know about that those vetting him do.

However, a job like Georgia Tech would seem to be a good fit. While there is some degree of difficulty recruiting there, it still sits in one of the most talent rich areas of the country. They are in a VERY winnable division of a very average conference. Winning and recruiting at MSU seems like it would have been a much more difficult process. And Georgia Tech isn't Florida when it comes to expectations. If a coach can get them to 8-9 wins and intermittent ACC Championship game appearances I suspect the fans and school would be more than happy.

I'd certainly rather take a shot with 50 year old Dan Mullen who has won in the SEC over 62 year old Willie Fritz who is having a flash in the pan great season at Tulane.

If I could trade Pittman for Mullen today, that would be a tough decision, but I’d probably do it.

This is the answer. He has no reason to take a job in a bad situation. He can wait and take the right job, where he can win.

He can go become the OC at alabama then take over at Auburn after Freeze gets another show-cause in two years.

He’s actually being looked at by A&M as their OC

I just think that if you want to get back into coaching, you should coaching on somebody’s staff at least as an analyst or something, rather than pontificating from the TV control room.

Sitting around on TV worked pretty well for Mack Browns old arse.

Dare I remind anyone of the buzz that followed Jon Gruden on TV for years before he got back into the NFL.

Hell Herm Edwards sat on TV for years after flaming out of the NFL and got a solid college job.

Mullen will eventually get a decent head coaching job without grinding as an assistant if he wants it.

His ego is way too big to be a OC in college. Maybe NFL, but I even doubt that.

Mullen can sit around on tv enjoying his buyout and land a top coaching job when he’s ready to. He won’t even have to go be an OC somewhere first to do it.

He and Cole Cubilic work together, and Cole said recently on his radio show Dan is having the time of his life and spending so much time with his family. Said he could see him doing the studio gig for a few more years unless the perfect opportunity fell in his lap.

Averaging 8 wins a season really isn’t that remarkable.

Would be great for a&m.

I don't see him and jimbo getting along. They would clash over control of the offense.

He's getting mention for UK OC, but not sure he would take a job less than HC.

Maybe I'm just dumb but seems to me mullin would be crazy to take a OC job. He's done enough to restart as a HC IMHO

Especially if you consider some of the ppl who got to be direct retreads like Muschamp
