i think a coach willing to stay for the long haul(who will be successful) is much more attractive than the next big. Guys who achieve success then bolt leaves the program in recovery mode for years....

Meyer left UF because of health and family reasons, not because he left for the NFL, and after giving them 2 ships. I would be happy with one ship from our next coach much less 2 ships then he could go if he would want to leave because it would show LSU is a place to win natty.

Jimbo is beyond that. He's a college coach.
Meyer was 41 and younger than Herman when he was hired by UF. Did he go to the NFL? I bet a lot of NFL teams had sent feelers to him in the past but he just didn't go. The same could be said of Bob Stoops, he was only 39 when he was hired by OU and he won 4 BCS bowls and one natty. Was he too young for you?
While no one can't predict the future but it is flatly wrong to say a young coach is more likely to go to the NFL. Fisher could coach for a long time but he could quit coaching fb next year due to family reason as he almost quit it earlier this year to be with his son who has a rare illness.

As happy as I am about our last title you can make the arguement that it was an anomaly due to the things having to fall in place for us to get that spot (given the opportunity we did our part after that, ala Bama on 1/9).
Others haven't been as fortunate.

While I agree in theory and am definitely on the jimbo train, you could make the argument that no coach should be staying longer than 6-8 years is days.
Coaches get burnt out faster than any profession. Most need to shake it up sometimes.

On paper, Jimbo Fisher would be the best football hire LSU has ever made in its history.
Take a step back and think of where our program was in the 90's. And now fast-forward to today where we seem in position to hire Florida State's championship-caliber coach. It really is a sign of how far the LSU program has come thanks to Saban and Miles.
Is it possible Jimbo doesn't get it done and doesn't meet expectations? Certainly. But all the pieces would be in place for championships, including a head coach that understands offense.
Take a step back and think of where our program was in the 90's. And now fast-forward to today where we seem in position to hire Florida State's championship-caliber coach. It really is a sign of how far the LSU program has come thanks to Saban and Miles.

I have noticed this as well. not all, but most coaches get burned out or complacent after much success and contract enhancements. they also lose key assistants.

I certainly agree, although I think Jimbo's history with LSU also plays a role.
He spent 7 years of his life in Baton Rouge, developed an affinity for the university and region, and also formed various friendships with individuals in the LSU administration. He has even publicly stated that LSU is a "very special place" to him. I think it's a similar situation to Michigan and Harbaugh - no other school could have possibly pulled in Harbaugh from the NFL, regardless of how much money they threw at him. It was Harbaugh's connection with Michigan that was ultimately the deciding factor.
As you mentioned, though, the status of LSU's football program obviously plays a role as well. This hire would be absolutely huge for the LSU brand on a national level.

I wouldn't even care if O went to Bama. It's not like their DL or recruiting could get much better than it already is.
