Not my first choice but stop with the old comments. Dude is 60. Still young in the coaching world.

Wonder if Freeman would come or if Notre Dame would promote him or that could be another gig Fickell might leave for

Fickell would sprint to South Bend to take that job if it was offered to him, and Marcus Freeman would be a natural fit to replace Fickell at Cincinnati in this scenario.

He fits SW, no hype and off the radar. Kelly won’t make the playoffs this year and
Kelly can never win a championship at ND
And his reported 2021 salary is less than 2 million

Now for the next two days we will have people on this board say " [insert coach name] was the choice all along. Riley was the smoke screen. Announcement Tuesday or Wednesday.". Then when someone guesses right they will try and act like they weren't just throwing shite at the wall.

I think they're in if any two of these teams lose:
Bama
Cincy
Michigan
Oklahoma State

Saban’s 70.

We could get 6-7 good ones out of Kelly.

Why would it be a "meh" hire?

He is 54-9 in his last 4 years. Tons of HC experience under a pressure cooker.

Pretty dominant run at ND with tough restrictions. No titles, but several playoff appearances and normally in the mix to get in.

He hasn't gotten over the hump vs Alabama or Clemson, but no one really has - other than LSU. So maybe he thinks he could win a title with more access to better players.

Also, he's 2-0 vs LSU with less talent.

ND is going to be ranked no lower than 5th in the upcoming CFP rankings with #1 and #2 playing each other and #3 and #4 playing ranked teams this weekend. With how crazy this year has been it's a pretty good chance they get in.

Long shot for ND to make the playoffs. But I don’t think Kelly would take another job until cfp finalized.

You might think about it if you realize you can't get the talent at your current school necessary to overcome Alabama, Clemson, Georgia but you COULD at LSU.

ND has had some really good seasons under Kelly. The they go up against Alabama or Clemson where they are simply just outmanned. 20 years of history tells you LSU can get talent comparable to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia.

I'm not saying LSU hires him. Hell, it is entirely possible that he's not even interested in the LSU job. But if you have had a long history of success and you know there is a ceiling on that success simply because you can't quite get the guys you need to break through at your current school it might be enticing to consider a school that CAN get those players.

Add a huge payday to that reasoning.

Bingo.
