dont get the hype. Mediocre record in a weak conference. One boom year....maybe, season isn't over. I can't help but think this would be a terrible move for LSU. If it happens I'll root for him to kill it here, but he isn't impressive to me at all. What am I missing?

He’s been trending upward since he took the job with steady progress. You just showed why he should be at the top of the board….

He’s a much better option that Sumrall

As I said elsewhere the only guy they would accept is if you could take Saban’s consciousness now and transfer it into a 30 year old body

Everyone that knows him says he's the real deal. Would toughen up this program again.

Had to replace a wishbone personnel to an actual modern college offense. They have some toughness on defense as well. He’s an interesting coaching prospect. Saban ties. Not a bad option

Brent Key. I dont get it.
I live in Atlanta and follow Tech a little bit. Key has definitely done a good job, but that's all relative.

Tech plays in a weak conference and Key has only had one good year (this year).

It's the typical overreaction of people to "one big year" coaches. They're hot, but not because of several years of success - it's a single year.

So it's difficult to tell if the coach is really great, or if the big year is just an aberration.

Oh, and Curley Hallman says hello.

I'm all in on Key if Meyer, Lanning, and Kiffin say no.

Nobody likes the fact that we're soft and can't run the ball.

This guy is the answer to that. Plus, he's resurrected GT from flexbone wasteland to the top 10.

Offensive line guy. Former OL coach at Alabama under Saban.

His defenses play tough at the LOS and they just look like a thoroughly well coached team.

He's a relatively young guy who is going to come in here and WORK. I don't get what's not to like.

Sure.
But the guy everyone is enamored with…
Who LSU will have to break the bank for…
Is career 112-53.
If you are mad at Woodward for the Kelly contract but your favorite option is Joey frickin Freshwater, you are contradicting yourself.

Just a quick note: The previously mentioned flexbone offense not only handed Kirby a home defeat but also beat Zack Prescott in the Orange Bowl. Tech has a solid football strategy in place — including Brent Key’s contract and other key elements I’d prefer to keep confidential.

I've got nothing against the flexbone. Just that the recruiting strategy going from Flexbone to spread took some significant changes over multiple years.

There is no can’t miss coach available this year. We had to do what we did. I think Key would be a good fit if we went that way

through 42 games at the "little brother" school Key is 26-16
Saban through 42 games at a "little brother" school was 22-20

Saban did that at a school that was 16-18 over the 3 years prior to him being hired
Key is doing this at a school that went 9-23 over the 3 years prior to being hired.

Name a coach that does good without a good QB.

Les Miles tried his best to make the position obsolete. He fell short but it wasn't lack of effort.

It still amazes me how many of Les' WRs blocked their way to the NFL. I do kind of miss those bone-rattlin' downfield blocks. Loved watching a DB get LaFelled.

There are some morons ITT.

I'm a Georgia fan and I have no issues admitting that Key is one hell of a good coach. He is straight out of the Saban and Kirby school of instilling a toughness and a culture of toughness and LSU or any other of the programs looking for a HC would be lucky to have him.

But he's not leaving Tech.
