Top 10 I agree with, top 5 I do not. But I also think ND is a top 10 program. So not that far apart (but I'd put LSU a little further ahead) and close enough to where I would put them in the same tier. I personally can understand if you disagree with my opinion, but I don't see my opinion as an insane or unthinkable one by any means.

Not as ignorant as thinking LSU is in the "blue blood" tier of college football. LSU is a top 10 program, but so is ND. But to think that LSU is a top tier program (very top) isn't ignorant, it's just delusional.

They have won 3 titles and played for another in the last 20 years. In most peoples lifetime on this board, they have been a top program.

Why not wait one more year to see if Kelly will get LSU to the playoff or win 10 regular season games or more. I am not adding bowl wins. Mizzou is on an upswing right now. Drinkwitz got Mizzou moving in the right direction. Next year I believe Mizzou should go 10-2 or 11-1.

They aren’t even in the tier below LSU in modern times. No one gives a shite about a bunch of titles from the 70’s and 80’s, and those certainly don’t help them hire coaches.

There was a reason BK left ND ,he had to beg for support
from the administration all the time. They wouldn`t keep up
with the times .They dont pay for assistants like the other
top programs do.They are not going to pay Denbrock 1.5 or

Kelly left ND in way better shape than what was left him at LSU. ND is far from what they think they are. They along with a few others, have lost their shine over the years. Kelly had fought to get assistants more pay. ND stayed with the easy money after Kelly, keeping an established staff, that works out every now and then, but is often a miss. Time will tell. When saban, Les and Kelly left to come to LSU, they left a bunch of staff back. All coaches did better with their LSU stop, two of those three won a NC At LSU. The third will get his shot, it’s the odds. The last 3 coaches at LSU won NC, two of those guys couldn’t have won one anywhere else!

ETA: Top 5 teams of the modern era in alphabetical order
Alabama
Clemson
Georgia
LSU
Ohio State
Who would you even argue to include over LSU? The only other teams in that era that even have 2 championships are Florida and Florida State, LSU has 3.

I would personally put Bama, UGA, Ohio St, and Clemson all being in a tier. Then LSU, Michigan, Texas, Florida, ND, Oregon all in a tier with FSU and maybe USC just outside of it. LSU did win 1 NC in the last 10 years, but then went 5-5 & 6-7 the next two years following it and had to fire the coach. LSU hasn't had as much sustained constancy over the past 10 years as the 5 I listed in my opinion.
I didn't intend on this thread to devolve into an insecurity lash out by the LSU fans. I just thought Denbrock being talked about for ND's OC spot was a pertinent topic of discussion. I'm done arguing about a subjective subject like LSU's tier placement in the current college football landscape because I really couldn't care less about it. Geez

Ohio State and LSU are the only ones in the modern era that have done it with different coaches. Hell, LSU was able to make the worst coach in the history of Ole Miss into a National Champion.
Let's see what happens at Clemson when Dabo leaves. Or when the next coach at UGA has to deal with the entitled booster base Kirby is growing. Alabama is going to have issues as well. There won't be a coach on the planet that will be able to control the boosters there like Saban can.

So program rankings are purely subjective.
Who has had a better program in the CFP era: OU or LSU?
LSU has been above average for most of it with two bad years, but has the 2019 team and the NC.
OU rolled through the Big 12 for 6 straight years, made the CFP four times, but lost all four semifinals, three in routs (and one bad 6-7 year).
Some people automatically put a NC team above any that didn't win one. Others may respect the conference championship run more.
