Jon Gruden is suing the NFL and Roger Goodell for conducting a "malicious and orchestrated campaign to destroy [his] career and reputation."...
quote:

n the docs, Gruden points out that the NFL uncovered hundreds of thousands of emails as part of a larger investigation into sexual harassment allegations against the Washington Football Team ... but the only emails that he claims the NFL leaked are the ones that implicate Gruden.

The 58-year-old, meanwhile, says Goodell and the league have kept all of the other ones under wraps.

Gruden also claims the NFL initially only released a single email -- the one containing the reference to NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith's lips -- and immediately began pressuring the Raiders to fire him over it.

But, when the Raiders refused, Gruden claims the NFL then released a batch of other emails, saying the league "weaponized" them, and ultimately caused the Raiders to pressure Gruden into resigning.

Gruden notes in the suit that the NFL has historically tried to appear transparent, by issuing written reports on a host of past investigations, including Deflategate, the Ray Rice incident, and the harassment allegations against the Miami Dolphins.

The former coach says the leak is an attempt to distract from the NFL's failure to properly handle the sexual harassment allegations against the WFT.

Gruden is suing for unspecified damages -- including punitives -- claiming the NFL's actions caused him to lose his sponsorships and recognition (including his place in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Ring of Honor).

I have never heard why the NFL released his, and only his, emails. They were uncovered during an investigation into the WFT. Those emails had nothing to do with that probe. Anyone know why?

Because the NFL wanted him gone. The same thing is currently happening in the NBA with Robert Sarver who the NBA have been trying to get rid of for years.

As he states, the NFL apparently has hundreds of thousands of emails. The only ones leaked were his, and in a pretty calculated manner. The first one was "offensive" and they wanted him fired; that didn't happen. So, more leaks then occurred. Of only his emails. Nobody knows what, say, Belichik may have said, or not. Those remain sealed.

So why would the nfl pick on gruden

Goodell clearly didn't like Gruden and vice versa and Goodell wanted to get back at him for telling the truth. Otherwise, these e-mails should have been kept confidential like the other nearly 650,000 ones.

Discovery requests in this case are going to have a lot of NFL insiders really nervous. Gruden may not win a dime, but his attorneys are likely about to wreck the NFL elites if the judge lets them have meaningful discovery.

It's hilarious for the NFL attorney to say the allegations are meritless. How many of the other 650,000 e-mails have we heard about? I love that Goodell being called a spineless fig was put down in print though because that is exactly what he is.
