Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher and North Carolina coach Larry Fedora have both been contacted by LSU for the head coaching job, according to NOLA.com.

LSU pursued Jim Fisher heavily last November and could be favorite again but the report says interim head coach Ed Orgeron is still very much in the mix to land the job full-time next season.

Some of LSU's largest financial backers are starting to warm to the prospect of Orgeron leading the team next season and beyond, according to a source connected with the school's benefactors.

Orgeron's fate might hinge on his ability to lure a top offensive coordinator to Baton Rouge to join his staff if he were hired.

"He would have to have the right guy lined up, or there will be a lot of resistance from influential people," according to a source briefed on the search.
The report also adds that other candidates include Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy and Houston's Tom Herman.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva will look to make a decision starting at the end of November or early December.

Alleva is said to be targeting the end of this month to the early part of December in announcing his decision, which could give the new staff the ability to host recruits on official visits before the NCAA dead period starts Dec. 12.

Goddamnit if we hire Orgeron I will melt. Aggie in November level melt.

Not sure of why you would melt, you people appear to be judging the man off of what he did ten years ago, he has done a pretty good fricken job of taking over 4 games in with a tight ends coach as an OC, the players have energy again and he knows how to motivate them. I understand going after Jimbo and all that but i wont melt if we hire Orgeron cause we will continue to have a good recruiting class and if we hire the right OC that can develop a QB we will be fine, my concern is losing Dave Aranda
user avatar
PsychTiger90 months
As SwampBandit said, keeping Aranda is a must and that would be one of my top requirements of any incoming head coach.

BILLFISHER2290 months
You guys are absolutely correct. Aranda is the wild card here. We have to hold on to him at just about all cost.

Does this mean that LSU is now not interested in Tom Herman?

Whoops, posted too quick. It mentioned that later in the article.

I won't melt if we take Jimbo over O, but I'll definitely melt if we take Fedora over O.

They should contact a promising up-and-comer who is the best defensive coordinator in NCAAF: Dave Aranda.
user avatar
atltiger648790 months
Arando has zero experience as a head coach. Head coach requires completely different skill sets than coordinator. You don't let a guy cut his teeth at an elite program like ours.
user avatar
Fenwick8690 months
You mean like Jimbo cut his teeth at FSU?

Jimbo Fisher vs his mentor Saban yearly? Sadly his fate would be determined by his success against Saban.
user avatar
KiwiHead90 months
I don't want anyone really who has ever played or had contact with Saban. Jimbo worked for him, he knows Jimbo. Advantage Saban and Alabama

RedPop490 months
This whole scenario, Les OUT, now possibly J.F. against his mentor. This all comes full circle from Charlie McClendon. It's Alabama's whatever they have over us, again and again.

As usual the BIG money is calling the shots. Typical BS.

fricking Mike Gundy? This can't be real

What's your beef with Gundy? he always has highly productive offenses

He has a better resume than O.

"Some of LSU's largest financial backers are starting to warm to the prospect of Orgeron leading the team next season and beyond, according to a source connected with the school's benefactors." Wouldn't have guessed that by what those wealthy benefactors post on Tiger Rant about Coach O

NO JIMBO FISHER. His success was due in large part to a great QB. He's gone now and Fisher's record shows it.
user avatar
baobabtiger90 months
Which is why LSU hasn't won championships since 2007. I don't mind the guy who developed Booty, Rohan, Mauck, Russell, Flynn(some), Ponder, EJ Manuel, and now their freshman.
user avatar
chris50490 months
Jimbo has consistently developed QB's and that's been the one missing piece for LSU almost every year since 2007 NC team. I'll take Jimbo any day
user avatar
atltiger648790 months
Winston only played for 2 years. Jimbo has consistently been very good at FSU during all 6 years. Jimbo's success is more than Winston.
user avatar
CHEDBALLZ90 months
Id rather have Coach O, pay him less than Jimbo and the like and expand his budget to hire assistants.
user avatar
RedPop490 months
LSU already pays assistants more than almost every other school out there. Why do you think there's still speculation about JF leaving Tallahassee in the first place. It's not HIS salary that's the issue. Moscona, love him or hate him, mentioned this yesterday.

Larry Fedora? Bwahahaha......he can go to UL Lafayette....there may be an opening there

3 posts? Seems legit. I'm sure your fan base love O as well.

Go for Jimbo and Herman. If neither of those pan out, then it should be offered to Coach O. If you fire a coach who averaged 10-3 over 10+ years in the SEC, then the next person should be better or at least on par, not a step back.

IMO Herman is too risky. Same goes for Fedora. If it's not Jimbo then keep O and get an elite OC.
