Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher and North Carolina coach Larry Fedora have both been contacted by LSU for the head coaching job, according to NOLA.com.

LSU pursued Jim Fisher heavily last November and could be favorite again but the report says interim head coach Ed Orgeron is still very much in the mix to land the job full-time next season.

Some of LSU's largest financial backers are starting to warm to the prospect of Orgeron leading the team next season and beyond, according to a source connected with the school's benefactors.

Orgeron's fate might hinge on his ability to lure a top offensive coordinator to Baton Rouge to join his staff if he were hired.

"He would have to have the right guy lined up, or there will be a lot of resistance from influential people," according to a source briefed on the search.
The report also adds that other candidates include Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy and Houston's Tom Herman.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva will look to make a decision starting at the end of November or early December.

Alleva is said to be targeting the end of this month to the early part of December in announcing his decision, which could give the new staff the ability to host recruits on official visits before the NCAA dead period starts Dec. 12.

I won't melt if we take Jimbo over O, but I'll definitely melt if we take Fedora over O.

He has a better resume than O.

If CEO can get an elite OC, I think he should get the job. We have a great coaching staff right now and CEO will be the only guy that can keep it together. If you hire a new coach, he will bring in new staff, so guys will go. If we can get an OC who runs a modern day offense and is a QB guru. We are straight.

Win out and Coach O deserves the shot. Agree, we need a proven OC though.

Fedora beat Jimbo with less talent.

Why would we take Herman? In 9 seasons he has 1 conference title (Conf. USA) and one Division title (ACC). He's finished a season ranked twice, once at USM and again at UNC. I'd rather keep O than hire Fedora.

I would like for it to be Jimbo but only and I say only if he plans on keeping Dave Aranda and a few other staff members like Corey Raymond... Jimbo is a great offensive mind there's no doubt about that and also someone who can develop quarterbacks so if we pair Jimbo with Aranda we would own the SEC. Anyone coach who does not plan on keeping Dave Aranda can keep walking bc under no circumstances LSU should EVER allow Dave Aranda to leave!!

Go for Jimbo and Herman. If neither of those pan out, then it should be offered to Coach O. If you fire a coach who averaged 10-3 over 10+ years in the SEC, then the next person should be better or at least on par, not a step back.

So anyone that disagrees with you should be cursed at? Aren't we all supposedly on the same team? Look, I just disagree with the jimbo people, he has proven nothing to me. I'd rather have Fedora, who is currently beating him (two times in a row now). Coach O is awesome, I love him. At the same time I think there are possibly better options for us. I just don't see how he has proven to be a guru of the game. We have to outwit Saban, we aren't going to outrecruit him. Either way, whoever we hire I support him 100%, and I would hope tiger fans everywhere can raise their glasses and toast our future conquests.

I am not a fan of Jimbo Fisher. Jameis Winston played a big part in his success at Florida St. Fisher was still able to get them a National Championship, but go look at his records before and after 2014 & 2015. He is good for losing a game he isn't suppose to. I think it will be a bad move.

IMO Herman is too risky. Same goes for Fedora. If it's not Jimbo then keep O and get an elite OC.

3 posts? Seems legit. I'm sure your fan base love O as well.

At this point in the year, LSU shouldn't even be talking about this in the media. Of course you have agents out there trying to chum the water, and get better deals for their clients. But Alleva shouldn't say anything at this point until pen has been put to paper. I despise the "coaching carousel" bull shite in any and all sports.

According to this he won't coach the sugar bowl if he isn't hired.

"Some of LSU's largest financial backers are starting to warm to the prospect of Orgeron leading the team next season and beyond, according to a source connected with the school's benefactors." Wouldn't have guessed that by what those wealthy benefactors post on Tiger Rant about Coach O
