Former LSU Football player and current ESPN analysts Booger McFarland joined the Russillo & Kanell show on Thursday and was asked who he would rather see coaching at LSU next year; Les Miles or Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin?

It took McFarland a second to respond but he said he would roll the dice with Kiffin.
quote:

"I would roll the dice on Lane," McFarland said. "The game has changed offensively. (Miles) is not going to change. If you see where the game is heading offensively, don't you have to go there?"
No. 18 LSU sitting at the 2-1 (1-0 SEC) still has a lot to play for this season but many think that the loser of this Saturday's game at Auburn will be looking for a new head coach next year.

You can listen to everything McFarland had to say on Russillo & Kanel below:

McFarland last Nov before OM: "If you lose to OM you are 4-3 and then it really doesn’t matter what else you do. If they lose by 3 that is one thing but if the lose by 21 then it is time to make a move because we have seen it over and over. Sometimes you have to understand what is holding you back and know when to change. People always say lets stop talking about Saban, but no, we have to talk about Saban. Saban recognized he had the same problem LSU has now a couple of yrs ago. What did he do? Probably against every bone in his body he hired Kiffin to change the O because he knew his weakness. He brought in someone smarter on O than he could ever be and he gave ALA the threat of an explosive O. Right now LSU does not have that threat. So as great as LF is, and I think he is the best back in America, but when you are running against stacked boxes there is nothing he can do as you saw against ALA and ARK. It is tough for him to get free when you are not spread and making the D account for everyone else. BH has done a fine job developing but when you go back to the ALA, ARK games they had 25 3rd downs, 17 were 8+, 12 were 10+. It is tough for Montana to complete 3rd and 10+. So you are putting Harris in adverse situations and that slows his development and the O development. Overall you could sum LSU up in one sentence: The lack of O progression over Miles tenure has been saddening."

Booger is just stating his frustration with Miles- aren't we all unhappy with Miles and want change? Miles is his own worst enemy- reminds me of Gerry Dinardo in a way. Dinardo refused to upgrade his coaches while Miles in his brain still sees a 1974 Offense with Bo Schembechler taking on Woody Hays.

Lane to LSU turns LSU into SMU. How effective are the Mustangs all these years later?

Wish we could get Petrino as HC and offensive coordinator but with our present defensive staff but not possible as Petrino's team will be in the NC playoffs this year.

As much as I love to see LSU flourish more on offense, I will not sacrifice my values to get a trashy coach like Petrino. He is a great coach and player developer but a horrible human being. Kiffin is in the same league in my opinion. Saban may be come across as an a-hole at times but his does not serious character flaws like Petrino or Kiffin. Keep it classy as far as coaching goes.

Of all the many challenges involved in being a HC, Les fails at one of them while Lane fails on multiple, multiple levels. Either I was wrong when I thought Booger was smarter than this, or he is just ate up with the 'win at all costs' mentality that turns fans into retards. He should've disallowed the question IMO.

A "loser of this game gets fired" scenario is more about whether or not your AD has the huevos to fire your coach than if the coach is the right person to lead the program. The fact that you're even at the point of saying "loser gets fired" is prima facie evidence that they both need to go.

no thanks. Id prefer the 1950s offense over the NCAA sanctions.

He was asked a question - Miles or Kiffin? He answered Kiffin. That doesn't mean that he thinks Kiffin is the best guy for the job. Just that he's better than Miles.

He isnt better than Miles though. Kiffin has either had ncaa violations or failed miserably at every head coach stop. He failed at a more prestigious job than lsu and in an easier job.

If he is stirring the pot he is focusing on his career in media.

He should probably just focus on his career in media and quit stirring the pot.

He was asked the question and gave his honest opinion. It's not like he just decided to blurt it out.

frick that. He would do here what he did to Tennessee and USC. Booger is stupid to say that.

NO. No way. I like Petrino way more than Kiffin. He was awful at USC. The job was way over his head as a head coach. He is a solid coordinator.

The LSU job is not a revolving door for a guy like Kiffin.

Booger is wrong. Kiffin is no upgrade at headcoach.

ABM has earned the opinion he espouses. He's put in his time, sweat and pain for LSU - 100% more so than anyone who is commenting. The fact that he's also seen LK from a professional NFL level, as well as, an NCAA position as OC, lends to his opinion. If he feels LK would be a better fit @ LSU - in order to utilize the NFL talent we have on this roster year after year - then I agree with his opinion.

Lane kiffen failed at usc. A more prestigious job in an easier conf than lsu. Please explain the thinking behind Kiffen being better than miles.

Only way I would be ok with lane is if we were guaranteed that the defensive staff would stay in tact. I still think miles can get it done this year. With etling I think the Offense will open up.
