Ed Orgeron spoke at the virtual Baton Rouge Rotary Club Wednesday and provided some updates on LSU's offense heading into the season.

Early into his comments, Orgeron made it clear that offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger called 75-percent of LSU's plays last year and that the spread offense will be the same even without former passing game coordinator Joe Brady.

It was all Brady. What do you expect O to say? Ole Steve gonna be lost without the wonder boy.

You are probably one of those who called Coach O a shrimp boat captain. Steve ain't gonna get lost. He's focused and you are wrong.

Came here just to read the couch potato coaches comments, and they didn’t disappoint !!!

that's coachspeak. Last year's offensive production was 90% Brady. What's O supposed to say?

I will say this: every time the tv cameras showed the coaches booth, I saw Brady talking most of the time and Ensminger just sitting there I’m not saying Steve didn’t do anything. But the camera don’t lie. It was NOT 70% Steve imo

You know a guy can be chatty and not be calling plays, right? And guys in the booth can be talking about what is working, what they haven't tried, what they have tried that might be tweaked and still not be calling plays, right?

You do know since TV was primarily talking about Brady they cut to the booth specific chosen times when he was talking, right? Vice versa for when they talked about Ensminger

Aside from bringing some Saint's offensive concepts & his effectiveness in the red zone, Brady made significant contributions in diagnosing pre-snap coverage. That's at least partially why he would be talking in those cuts. The playcall was already in & as the offense came to the LOS, Brady was analyzing coverage & making adjustments. The same thing Scott Linehan will be performing the same role this year.

Jeezus peeps what are we arguing here? Brady came here to teach Ensminger the spread and he sure did. Ensminger did a great job all year and thank you MR.BRADY for your services. We all won last year Brady got paid and LSU got a NATTY. Drops mic

Saying that Ensminger was the playcaller for the vast majority of the offense, and the offense will be the same, is what most of us have been saying. The problem though, is that LSU was like a master class in the redzone, Brady's portion. Good Redzone passing is the difference between a 15-20 TD passer and a 30-40 TD passer (13 games). LSU was so far and away better than anybody else, it was ridiculous. Appalachian St looks better with less attempts until you realize they only played 2 teams ranked in the top 30 in opponent redzone conversions % while LSU played 4 in the top 19. Ohio St was the next closest in rating, but Burrow's cmp% was 11% higher and Ohio St would have needed to score 6 TDs on their next 14 passes in the RZ to match us. Will he be able to replicate any of that?

Brady did not call the red zone plays unless it was empty backfield or bunch. Those were the only plays he called at any time. The offense was not divided by red zone or 3rd down. It was divided by the formation. Each knew thoroughly the offense for the separate formations. But even then SE made the decision to go bunch or empty. Joe then called the plays. This should make great sense to you if you think about it. I am sure there was discussions on all phases but this was in general how it was broken down. Certainly you would think they would talk and make suggestions. Also SE was rage QB coach.

Most of you people are pathetic. I expect these type of comments from opposing teams but not our fans. I’m not sure what y’all were watching when Ensminger took over in 2016 and 18 but those two offenses weren’t terrible at all. We had a different team and style of offense then. The way in which plays were called still confused defenses and kept them off balance for the most part. If it weren’t for our RZ TD issues in 2018, we may have made the playoffs that year as well. LSU drove the field on everyone but Bama. We kicked a ton of FGs. We will have another great team in 2020 if we have that opportunity to play. Wow some of our fans are pathetic.

I don't understand why people find this so hard to believe. Coach E is actually a damn good OC, y'all forgot this man called a brilliant game while going through a horrific tragedy. Plus this season ain't about Ensminger it's about QB Myles Brennan and the OL gelling, this offense will be ran smoothly.

I think we will go 4-2 or maybe 5-1 this year. No matter; just hope we beat the gumps again with all their 5 stars. I truly hate that program

I think we scored TDs on about 30% of our plays.....

I hope he did but somehow I kinda doubt it. We'll know within the first couple of games whether or not this was true.

Well, we'll see this season if there is an upcoming season if Steve Ensminger is indeed the playcaller that had them rolling last season.

What does it matter. Thank Brady for his service and move on. Emsminger will (hopefully) have every opportunity to remind the world that his fingerprints were all over last years offense.

I agree with this. Brady brought in the finishing touches & everybody respects that. But Ensminger was the legit OC, he has full knowledge of what Brady added, and the LSU offense should continue to roll right along. Enough said.

So was it 75% or 70%?

Okay, so we will have a much better defense and the offense will be just as productive as last year! Sounds like another NC is we can play this fall.

"much better defense and the offense will be just as productive" - The world would be a super-happy place if we could just live off of assumptions.

30% of the calls came in the red zone. That was all Brady.

Yes, I agree. The red-zone calls were what allowed us to have such an unbelievable TD conversion. Do hope Coach E learned why Brady called the plays he called depending on the situation and personnel.

Come on man! Let's be honest. Joe Brady was the key to our success on offense last year. No disrespect to Coach Ensminger but he just agreed the calls Joe made. I just hope Coach E learned enough to keep the train on the same speed and trajectory as last year.

Don't want to be negative, but I agree with you. The season was defined by a small sample of plays and it looked like Brady was the one who called (or at least had a hand in) most of them. I hope we are wrong, but we need those type of plays to continue to be successful this year.

I agree. Without Brady LSU would have been bad on offense again last season.

Wow really? Like someone said....coach O and coach Ensminger should be given the benefit of the doubt. We was going to a spread anyway...of course Joe Brady made it a faster transition. Everybody here would say that once we figured out what Clemson was doing our offense was the same it’s been all year...right?!?! Well truth be told....Joe Brady didn’t make a single call in that game. The sad part is if our offense is similar to last year...y’all gonna be the first ones to ride Ensminger’s c*ck!! Facts!!!
