Should I go to Cleveland for the cost of a plane ticket?

My wife's job is sending her to Cleveland for the week of Mardi Gras for a work event. I'm off that week so she asked if I wanted to tag along so we can hang out at night. They're paying for her room and all her meals. She'll be gone during work hours each day so I'll be by myself to explore. I've never really wanted to go to Cleveland and you don't hear many great things, but I'm thinking it can't be that bad. I was thinking about going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and maybe some museums.

Any other ideas of how I can entertain myself? Is it worth the $600-700 for a plane ticket for myself? Everything else is paid for besides what I eat for lunch. We'll split meals on her company's dime for dinner. We're trying to visit all 50 states so I figure this would be a cheap way to knock out a state we've never been to. I can't think of any special trip we would take to Ohio unless it's to watch the Bengals.

Cleveland? In February? LOL.

Ohio is pretty much only good for Wright Patterson. Remember that the “rock and roll” hall of fame admitted Missy Elliot, but not KISS, Boston, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, REO speedwagon, Steppenwolf, etc.

Not during the winter. Summer sure, winters in Cleveland are awful. Cold af with wind coming off the lake.

I say this in all seriousness, I would find a new job. Her employer has zero respect for her and anyone else they are sending to this. Who schedules anything in Cleveland in the winter?

Technically the first week of March this year.

In their defense, it's not mandatory and she can choose other dates. They have another one in May in Washington D.C. that she could choose if she likes. She just wanted to see if I wanted to do the Mardi Gras week one since I won't be working and most of the expenses will be paid. I just need a ticket.

Sure why not?

A week off and you can hang out with the wife for a week in a new city for that cheap?

I would do it in a heartbeat, regardless of the city or the weather.

Or you could stay home by yourself for a week and beat the skin off your dick

Winter isn't the most ideal time to be there, but you should certainly still go.

In addition to Rock & Roll HOF, you should drive an hour to Canton for Pro Football HOF.

There's also a Christmas Story House Museum in Cleveland if you're a fan of the movie.

Quick glance and looks like the Cavs would be it, but the home game is at night so defeats the purpose. Baseball would be a few weeks out from opening day. Looking at about a 2hr trip to hit any NHL games.

OP, where are you flying in from? Could you get a cheaper flight if you travel at different times from your wife?

I'd probably still do it just to check Ohio off the list. Other than Cedar Point (1 hr drive from Clev if you rent a car for the day) and catching some games I wouldn't have a desire to travel to Ohio.

Cleveland isn't as bad as people make it out to be
but yeah much better when weather warms up but you could go to Rock N Roll Museum, the flats, take a ferry to Put In Bay (more of a summer thing), Cavs, drive to Canton and see the NFL hall of fame (not a bad drive)

My initial reponse would be hell no, BUT...if y'all want to see every state and you haven' been to Ohio before, I would do it. Ther'es probably nothing in Ohio that's going to be a huge major draw for you in the future, and you won' have the opportunity next time to have most of your trip paid for by someone else.

Ultimateily if y'all have it in your heads that at SOME point in your lives you will get to Ohio eventually...might as well knock it out now while on someone else's dime.

I told her she can go ahead and book it. I know there's a chance the weather will suck but at the same time last year it was in the 70's a couple days and then dropped to the 40's. I know it could be worse but I'll take my chances.

I watch it every year. I would try to go check it out for sure.

I'd fly out of Lafayette. I would save about $100 if I flew out on Tuesday instead of Monday but I'm sure I'll end up leaving the same day as her. I checked flying out of New Orleans and it's a little cheaper, but not worth it for me to make the drive there and back.

This is where I'm at. This will be the cheapest trip we could possibly take to a state we don't have a major interest in.

We will definitely go to a game. She doesn't like basketball that much but she loves going to the Pelicans games just for the entertainment.

If everything else is paid for, I'll go most places for $600-700, but you really need to consider time of year. It's going to be cold.

Cleveland low key has some good qualities.

Check out Little Italy neighborhood. You can eat very, very well there.

I'm sure the article I referenced was written in 2013, but the point still stands.
