When i lived in arcata, summers on the coast were cool, but i could drive an hour inland and go swimming in the trinity river. Very beautiful part of California.

Did Hana on a tour. Wow!
Would have driven it if I was younger and had better eyesight.

Trinity alps remind me of the North Cascades a bit.

I second Needles Hiway in South Dakota. When you get to the end you will want to turn around and drive it the other way!

If we are including Canada the highway from Vancouver up to Whistler is stunningly beautiful.

I was all set to drive that one last year. COVID, of course. Maybe next summer.

Hwy 395 California, eastern slope of the Sierras, from Lake Tahoe to Death Valley.
Probably the most diverse drive I’ve been on. Funky, historic little towns, Mono lake with it’s tufa formations, gold mining town of Bodie at 8,000 ft and in a state of arrested decay, Lone Pine where most of the old Hollywood westerns were filmed and many, many other stops.
Also, Death Valley is one of my favorite national parks, it took a long time to decide to go, but I was blown away by the beauty of it.

Big Sur between Carmel and Moro Bay
Colorado has a bunch but I will say from Aspen over Independence Pass.
River Road along the Rio Grande between Terlingua and Presidio, Texas. As a bonus, add on the drive from Ruidosa, Tx to Marfa on Pinto Canyon Road which is a gravel road through the mountains.

I've done the Pacific Coast Highway from Monterey down to San Luis Obispo. I've done large sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I've done some scenic drives in Virginia and West Virginia. More in the driving enthusiast vein, I've done the Tail Of The Dragon, Hellbender, The Devil's Triangle and The Cherohala Skyway out in Western Carolina. I've done MINIs On The Dragon a bunch of times, so I've run a ton of the roads out that way. Does VIR count as scenic? I've also been to the Goodwood Festival Of Speed but I didn't drive anything.

US 191 from Pinedale, WY to Jackson.
Durango to up about Rock Springs is also worth doing.
I'll second the Glenwood Springs-Aspen-Leadville-Vail route but with an addition, especially if it's fall. Coming off Independence Pass, go through the Twin Lakes village to Lake Co. Road 24. It goes toward the south Mt. Elbert trailhead but takes you by the Mt. Elbert Forebay. Follow that road as it becomes a dirt road and you get an awesome view of Elbert and Massive. Roll around until you get to the paved road and follow it till it meets US 24.
It's a unique perspective on Lake County and the very upper Arkansas Valley that you don't really get if you go the normal way on CO 82 to US 24. Not to mention the view of the two lakes as you go up toward the Forebay. It also is a more direct route to Leadville.

Canadians are still being assholes. Depends on the agent, but they have taken and gone through peoples phones before allowing them to pass.
Just talked to a guy who was 2 hours at the border at Haines while they went through his phone, and I have heard it from several people.
