this guy got more responses on the OT in 10 minutes than he'd have gotten in 3 days on the Travel Board. Even accounting for the "Travel Board" responses, he still got more in a shorter time.

Westin is not there anymore, it was never the most expensive place to stay in KW. About #6 on my ranking scale.
Hawks Cay is super far from KW. 80 miles on a 35 mph road when there's not traffic. Depending on what your coming to do, middle and upper keys aren't a bad option.
KW is somewhat overrated IMO. Most people find it's not what they expected. What they expect and what it is are far off.

I'm showing 60 miles with about 1 1/2 hour drive with typical traffic according to google maps? Is it worse than that. We still don't care much, making a day out of it. Leaving Hawks Cay after breakfast and heading back after dinner and just taking in KW for the dya.

That's about right.
I don't drive up they keys often (hate that drive). Most of the time it's on a team bus and I'm not driving so I don't pay attention.
Sounds like a good plan. Doesn't take more than a day to get the gist of KW.

On your way down stop off at Mangrove Mamas, MM20 and have a painkiller from Patty in the bar. May be too early but always a good start.

Also, Square Grouper in Cudjoe is one of the best restaurants around, period. Check their schedule out as they have different days open in the spring.

Fly to Key West, Rent car and drive to Sugar Loaf Key and rent a condo on the water. The rent a boat.

You can go east and you can go west in the car or north, south, east or west in the boat and be happy wherever you stop!.

Insert Simpsonhatgif.

I found out that usually the people that want to get nekid ain't the people you want to see nekid!

Key Largo is the first key you hit after leaving the mainland. it has more of a Bawcomville feel and less of a Caribbean feel to it. the rest of the keys generally feel like fishing villages (which they are) with boat shops and bars lining the main road, and houses a block on either side of the highway.

it depends on what you're going for. if you have a boat and like to fish, anywhere is great. if you're looking for good beaches, this isn't the place. (bahai honda park is nice). if you're looking for night life and shopping, key west for sure.

Marathon: Faro Blanco/Hyatt

Islamorada: The Islander/Guy Harvey Outpost

Islamorada Resort Company: LINK

Fishing: Islamorada has some of the best fishing in the entire Keys. Have recs for guides up and down the Keys, either offshore or flats/backcountry. Tarpon bite is going off right now. Bonefish are hit and miss

The restaurant scene in Islamorada is very good as well

We are going in April. Didn't know where to stay and was talking to one of my co-workers about it. Our company has a place down there to take clients and he'd been a good bit. Said to look into a place called Hawks Cay. After looking, realized it's a place that is always featured in the fishing shows I watch. We booked it. Kind of pricey, but look like it's going to be awesome. It's in Duck Key, so it's pretty remote, but in the middle of all the keys. So we can spend a day in Key West or travel up to Key largo one day, I'll be fishing out of Islamorada one day, etc.

I've been. It's solid.

It's as good as anywhere else I've been down there. Nothing in the Keys I've experienced is great because nobody gives a shite about anything. Which is fine, but I think people who don't love it often go into it expecting the resort experiences they find in other tropical or high end locales.
