Verona Italy and Innsbruck Austria are two of my favorites.

We really enjoyed Florence. Our whiparound trip was Rome, Florence, Venice, Munich, Berlin, Paris, London, with day trips to Cinque Terre, Murano/Burano, Normandy, Dachau, Piza, Stonehenge, Versailles. Obviously I can’t offer much help with smaller cities, but Florence was a nice break from the hustle of larger cities. Florence is much slower pace than the rest of our trip and ended up being one of our favorite spots. 3 nights gave us plenty of time to recharge while taking in the city.

We loved Florence as well. If one had never been there it'd certainly be a recommended place. It's amazing. More importantly, it's a great "base of operations" to explore the Tuscan countryside. We took tours in area. Enjoyed some of the wineries. Went to Siena (great town). San Gimignano was a great walled city. Monteriggioni as well. Didn't go to Lucca but heard that was beautiful as well.

Normandy and specifically Bayeux as a base while in the area
Loved the town of Bayeux. Good mom and pop restaurants.

Bayeux. I am going there for 5 days in April. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My wife and I loved Krakow, Poland. Still feels like a Renaissance era city with a fantastic (if somewhat sobering) history. Honorable mention to Florence and Sienna, Italy.

Hands down my favorite place in Italy and all of Europe. Cinque terre Italy.

Sicily....from Taormina/Etna to Enna in the interior to the crazy dilapidated beauty of Palermo to the Tyrrhenian coast. Why it gets overlooked when people go nuts over Amalfi I do not understand.

Each of these cities/regions are truly remarkable. Some of these places I was planning on staying for a day or two and fell in love and stayed for a week... or if I couldn't, then I've had to visit again.

Just got back from Portugal and would add Porto to the list. Charming, historic, reasonably priced. Great wine.
