Heading to NYC in Dec with my boys. 3 ages 13-7. I love this city and used to visit every year or two but haven’t been in roughly 10 years. Totally out of touch. First time my kids have been. Anything y’all suggest aside from they typical Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center site, Empire State Building? Also, would love some restaurant recs! We are a foodie family.

We're doing it Oct. 7-10 for our daughters 13th birthday.
Will do a rundown afterwards, but we're doing Music Man & Little Shop of Horrors, normal NYC tourist stuff as she's never been, and so far Gallagher's Steakhouse for one dinner.

We just got back from taking our 9 yr old daughter for a long weekend. The One Vanderbilt experience is pretty awesome. We also went to Dumbo, did One World Tower, did Empire State Building, Harry Potter store, saw Hamilton and Music Man. Take them to Serindipity iii for dessert

I enjoyed Luma Hotel. Right in Times Square and have rooms with 2 king beds, which is not the norm in NYC. For restaurants, Piccola Cucina is the best Sicilian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Ellen’s Stardust Diner was really fun. Actors and Actresses aspiring to make it on Broadway are waiters and take turns singing famous Broadway musical songs. I echo the other guy about Hamilton. I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy it. Down the street from Luma Hotel is Bryant park. They have an outdoor ice skating rink. It’s also next to the New York Public Library. Since you are going in December, you have to go to Rockafeller Center to get some photo ops with the big Christmas setup there. I found Summit One Vanderbilt to be a cooler skyscraper view experience compared to Empire State. Since you have boys, maybe a tour of Yankee Stadium. People watching in Times Square can be fun. There are always various performers there. Maybe checkout Little Italy before it disappears forever. It used to run multiple blocks, but now is only 2 blocks. Chinatown is huge.
Prepare to smell weed EVERYWHERE! You will see the occasional crack head/homeless person on the subway, but they keep to themselves. I think the media exaggerated the issues in the subway a good bit. Just talk to your family about being aware of their surroundings and you’ll be fine.

Avra is a Greek restaurant we love for dinner. Does family style meals great for sharing. Terrific seafood. Would be a good option if you want a “nice” but not pretentious dinner option with the family.
Ippudo is a Japanese/ramen restaurant that we had a lot of fun at. We skipped the ramen, ordered every appetizer and loved in.
Korea town is small but has some terrific Korean BBQ restaurants that are open very, very late and, like korea, are on the 3rd and 4th floors of the building requiring you to walk up bizarre stair wells wondering where the “hell are we.” If you take the kids out to a show or have an otherwise “late” night with them, this is a great spot to start dinner or have a night cap at 10:00 pm and give the kids a taste of 24/7 New York.
For lunch one day you find a dumpling house close by to a counter pizza shop and hit up both. Vanessa’s dumplings is a dumpling house we’ve liked.
It’s touristy for sure, but Eatily is a crowd pleaser and I believe that building has an enclosed rooftop beer garden and restaurant.
Russ and daughter a good bagel and lox spot.
I think the tenement museum and the frick are two highly underrated museums that do not have the crowds of the big ones.
I love Broadway and think you should take your kids to see Broadway. New York is better at food and theater than any other city in the world so indulge in some theater.
Pick any cuisine you don’t have in your hometown and NYC no doubt has a stellar offering.
Edited - I see the youngest is 7. I restrict my rec. of the tenement museum and the frick. I stand by everything else.

With boys that age, Met museum, Natural history museum, Intrepid Aircraft carrier, night tour around Manhattan. There are 2 Asian restaurants in mid town on the same small block in the Theater area that we loved. Both have upstairs and downstairs dining. Sorry I can’t remember the same. If I find it, I’ll post. Toasties is a fun “local” restaurant chain all over town that has a great local feel.

Great! Thanks! We are staying at the Mr C Seaport near the Brooklyn Bridge. I wasn’t sure how Times Square was looking these days, so instead of staying in the middle of it, I figured we could just venture that way. Never stayed in this area before, but it looks nice. Thanks for the recommendations! Excited about going near Christmas time so the boys could see the lights and decorations.

The first time I went to NYC it was around this time. The weather was spectacular. One of my fondest memories and my favorite NYC trip.

As others have said summit at Vanderbilt was a cool visit, my daughter enjoyed it. nice views of the entire city. i was a little annoyed by all the "influencers" taking up the windows with no regard for anyone else though.
catch a Rangers game in MSG! That was a blast. ice skating at Rockefeller in front of the Christmas tree is iconic and a must-do. one of my fav parts of the trip. FAO Schwartz is there too.
Harry Potter world, central park.
As for food, we did Sugarfish for sushi, Joe's Shanghai in Chinatown for soup dumplings and Chinese. Turntable for wings.

Instead of taking the boring and long ferry to Statue of Liberty, my parents booked us this on our first trip to the city as kids and we still talk about it today. It briefly stops in front of the Statute of Liberty so you can see it and take all the pictures you want. Plus, the boat itself is awesome.

That looks awesome and I know my kids would love it, but we are going in Dec. I can’t imagine being wet in that cold weather.

Went in March. Kids favorite thing was electric scooters in Central Park surprisingly.
