Any recs. on an area outside of Baton Rouge that’s nice for the summer? Looked at areas in North Carolina and north Alabama, but would like something that’s not two days to drive to.

You can drive a long way if you put the hammer down and drive like you mean it. Even more so if you can swap drivers

Which one do you want? Because you're gonna have to choose one of these.

Denver, Minnesota, Boston - all non-stop flights out of MSY. A few hours (or less) rom those places and you can find some cool weather.

You can be in North Carolina wishing 8 - 9 hours of BR. Leave at 4 am and skirt around Atlanta. Don’t overthink this. Got to Appalachia.

San Diego

You can't really drive anywhere within reasonable distance to escape the heat now. Either deal with that or accept flying.

“I live in the peak area for shitty summer weather but I’d love cool weather if I don’t have to travel far or spend too much money”

Come on man. Be realistic.

About five years ago, I actually did Rocky Mountain National Park as a daytrip from MSY. Flew up early in the morning, drove Trail Ridge Road, did a couple of short hikes, played in the snow, enjoyed the feeling of being cold, and then made it back to DEN in time for my evening flight back to MSY.

If you can find $50 flights each way, like I did, it's a fun day.

Damn dude it's only mid June. And not sure your gonna find anything driving less than two days that's cooler. You'll need to fly.

They are even easier to Chicago, since it's only a 2-hour flight, instead of 2.5 hours. I've done Chicage daytrips five different times now, flying into either ORD or MDW and taking the L downtown. Again, if you can find $50 flights, you'll spend less on the flights than you'd spend on a hotel, and it's more fun to fly without fooling with luggage.

No, Frontier has done $50 MSY-DEN flights regularly. To Chicago, I've seen AA, UA, and Southwest do them. There's no luggage, so basic economy is fine.

There aren't any perfect sales right now, but you could still get the flights for $174 on July 30th or 31st, arriving on Southwest at 7:50 am and departing at 9:00 pm. If you plan on 30 minutes getting the rental car and arrive at DEN 1.5 hours before the flight, that would still give you six hours to do hikes and stuff along the way. If you were willing to cut that six hours in half, you could return earlier in the day on Frontier for a total of only $114. Doing this particular daytrip got a harder this year when Spirit made the decision to discontinue service to DEN.

As I said, Chicago daytrips are easier. You could do a Chicago daytrip right now for $100 on July 10th, as Spirit has a $26 flight back to MSY that night.

Man a lot of posters didn’t see I guess that you said less than two days drive. I’m looking for the same thing and I think I will go to Petite Jean State park with our camper or go to Lake Ouachita and MT ida area if driving and staying at a resort.
