Tired of beach. What other options do we have that meet these requirements:

6 hours or less travel time (from NOLA)
Something to do with kids
Near restaurants so I don’t have to pack days’ worth of food
Not nasty/trashy
Not a beach area

6 hours from NO and the beach is out? Not a lot of options left. Houston or Birmingham?

ETA that Apalachicola is a nice little town for a long weekend depending on your interests. A taste of Old Florida. Some decent restaurants, Oyster City Brewery and some shopping for the wife.

What time of year? Are there not any cheap flight options?

You could look into a cabin.

Not sure what you mean by ‘trashy’ either, but there’s a couple nice resorts within that distance. Grand Fairhope, there’s a Buffet place in Houston area I believe?

You've got a Venn diagram issue.

Um…Disney maybe? That’s all I can think of. The options are really limited.

That is one thing I enjoy about New England. Within 3-4 hours of you there are so many options of places to go and things to do/see.

Space Camp in Huntsville.
Six flags or NASA center or baseball game in Houston.
USS Kidd and Capitol/old Capitol in BR.
Mobile has some family friendly stuff.

Move to northern Georgia, North or South Carolina or eastern Tennessee.

You’ll never be frustrated again. Less than 6 hours from beautiful beaches and beautiful mountains.

Geographically speaking, it’s a great part of the US to be in.

Are you limited to driving? Can get almost anywhere in the country by plane in 6 hours

You shite out of luck.
For non trashy you got the Marriott Grand in Point Clear.

Other than that the OWA amusement and water park are the only things I can think of.

If you do happen to end up near Pensacola, the aviation museum is pretty damn cool

I haven’t done it yet, but I’ve been considering the Natchez Trace Pkwy. Nice leisurely drive, some hikes, maybe camping, etc

It’s the worst part of New Orleans. Hard to imagine another major city out there with a worse weekend getaway driving radius than us. Maybe Oklahoma City.

Maybe lake Martin in Alabama?
Natchez?
Fly spirit/southwest to Miami?

Northeast Alabama. Might be a tad longer than 6 hours, but not by much.

If you book it and allow another hour or 2, you could go to Fayetteville/Northwest Arkansas. Checks all your boxes

Mentone AL. Go on AirBnB and see if you can find a cabin.

Or...

Stay at Cloudland Canyon State Park in a cabin or yurt. Maybe 30 minutes to Chattanooga. Visit the Aquarium.

Just fly somewhere cool. Non beach within 6 hours driving really narrows it down to some suck broken bow arse options.

Another option is to go stay in San Destin in the Village at Baytown Wharf(meaning across the highway from the beach).

It's def. touristy, but there are shops, game room, a crappy zipline, and you can rent a golf cart to get around the community, which the kids might enjoy.

Unless you're willing to get on a plane, your options are limited. Austin and the Texas Hill Country are a little over 7 hours. Memphis and Hot Springs would be in range.
