So I can't be the only one who hasn't heard of Breeze Airways before, right? Reading a few aviation articles and found out there's a brand new airline starting in 2021 called Breeze Airways. Founded by David Neeleman, same guy who started Jetblue. Their routes are officially announced tomorrow but the first route is Tampa - Charleston.
Aircraft are all on E190s for now but moving to A220s upon order. Flights go on sale in about 6 hours from now so I guess we'll wait and see the destinations from Nola. My guess is New Orleans to Pittsburgh or Tampa, Charleston would be interesting
Few links/articles below.

David Neeleman hasn't failed yet. This will be his toughest go.

Randomly watched a 6 month old wendover productions video on youtube yesterday about starting an airline and they talked about Breeze, looked it up and they were announcing flight schedules today.

Can you book these flights and whatever other airline you have the tickets on cancel/get the flight credit? This is nonstop so big advantage booking this over one of the majors

This is the greatest news I've heard all week.

Very nice. Hope it’s a success.

Breeze plans to reduce costs and expedite its launch by initially leasing 118-seat Embraer E195 jets from Azul, as well as 108-seat E190s from Nordic Aviation Capital. That means low capital costs to start. The airline is starting with 13 aircraft — 10 E190s, and three E195s.
The airline is also in agreement to purchase 60 new Airbus A220-300 jets, which can hold up to 160 passengers. Neeleman said he expects the first delivery in October, with one delivery a month after that through the next few years.
The A220s will primarily operate on routes longer than two hours.
Additionally, Neeleman said Breeze will lower expenses through automation and technology. For instance, customers will be able to handle pretty much anything related to their flight through an app, something Neeleman believes will reduce the need for check-in agents and phone representatives.
quote:
“Our overhead costs are low. We’re using a ton of technology, all of our systems talk to each other, so we don’t need data entry people,” he added. “We don’t need big call centers with thousands of people.”
Neeleman said the airline should be able to break even on each flight with just 50 to 60 passengers on board.

Breeze Airways says it aims to be the world’s nicest airline, which many would argue doesn’t really mix well with the carrier’s hiring practices, which have caused quite a bit of controversy:
Breeze has hired flight attendants in an unconventional way, requiring them to enroll in online university and live in company housing, which seems to be a way to discourage those with college degrees and/or families from working for the airline
Breeze is otherwise only hiring part-time flight attendants, which seems like a way to avoid providing benefits
Breeze is hiring pilots with what amounts to regional jet pilot pay, with significantly higher requirements; admittedly many pilots are desperate for jobs right now, but is that borderline exploitative?
Curious to see how they compete in the current market

No nonstop route competition is their marquee. I predicted Tampa, and San Antonio to be bases.
New Orleans makes sense because it's a huge leisure market without nonstop service to several smaller medium-sized markets beyond 300 miles.
Hope it works.

I have multiple airlines for that trip and car rental already lined up so I guess I'll let it be
Looks like they have pretty cheap bag fees unlike the other budget airlines and are offering extreme flexibility which isn't something you tend to get on the cheapo fares. I hope this model works out.

Pre Covid, absolutely, it was a huge leisure market. Going to be interesting to see how the city rebounds in a post Covid world.

Looking for more info on Breeze--considering a trip to NW Arkansas over Labor Day weekend and realized that Breeze has direct flights from MSY to Bentonville for pretty cheap. BUT, when I look at available seats, there are about five seats booked on this flight. What are the odds that it will actually take off? Do flights get cancelled for no passsengers? I realize that bigger airlines fly half empty planes all the time due to scheduling & planes being needed elsewhere, but not sure if Breeze is big enough to have such concerns.
Would also love to hear from anyone who has flown Breeze. I think I can get by with a single personal item (backpack under seat) for a summer long weekend, so the cheapest fares are really appealing. And rental cars in NW AR don't seem to be as hella expensive as elsewhere in the country.
