For anyone wanting to go east for "cheap":

MSY to Providence, RI
$57 plane tickets through Frontier ($39.98 if you sign up for Discount Den). This is a three hour flight

Mt. Snow (adult) lift ticket and rental for around $70/day

$134 car rental from Providence airport.

Look for lodging in Wilmington, VT (15 minutes from Mt. Snow).

Probably the most affordable ski trip a family can make with those sub $60 plane tickets and cheap lift tickets and rentals.

I have 10+ days at PC thus far.

Mostly weekend skiing which is still prohibitively crowded due to the lack of open terrain. Lift lines were outrageous even for singles last weekend

Damn we are going to be there Mardi Gras weekend. Bet it is going to be packed. They seem to be getting some snow the last few days(about 1 foot total); hopefully that will open up some terrain.

Parts of the Cottonwood Canyons might have gotten 12", but PC didn't come close. Looks like a decent chance for some big snowfall starting late next week.

I have some family coming ski MG as well. Weird it might be mid-February and not have decent snow.

They are opening up Mckonkey's and thaynes today. They really need a big storm before Mardi Gras, we have 4 weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed.

You experts think this latest round of snow and the predicted over the next week or two will bring Colorado closer to "normal"?

It was good Saturday but sooooo many damn people. Chair 6 opened around 10am and those first few laps were something special

People are apparently afraid of the t-bar because there were some great stashes around there even late in the day. I highly suggest taking it and finding the goods

Dude, I’m old.

I ski greens on Peak 8 and enjoy a few beers.

Park City looks to get some snow Friday/Saturday, and Monday/Tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed, only have a few weeks left.

Just got back from Park City.

Snow on Park City Mountain was awful and there were way too many runs/lifts closed to make for good skiing. The Canyons had much better snow but still more closures than openings. Most lifts would have one run open underneath so everyone was crowded on one run.

On the other hand, Deer Valley has pretty good snow and nearly everything is open. They get more snow and make their own. I never came across a run or lift that wasn't open and each lift had multiple options for runs to take which helped spread out the crowds. It was busy on Saturday but not terrible and pretty nice every other day. Strongly recommend skiing Deer Valley and not even wasting your time on Park City, except maybe skiing the Canyons for a day.

I can never remember looking at the surrounding mountains and seeing as much green as I did. Still enjoyable and beautiful on Deer Valley though.

Winter Park skiing well today. Need to spend more time here this season now that it's included on our Steamboat pass.

Knocking on day 50s door. Think this is Day 48 today.

Thanks for the advice, looks like Utah is going to get a huge dump this weekend.

It’ll be their first real winter storm of the year so I imagine the lift lines out here will be wild. I’ve been out here since Saturday and while snow conditions haven’t been great the weather has been phenomenal and there are some good powder stashes around if you’re willing to put in the work to find them.

We didn't get on it until about 2 in the afternoon and it was still great.

My group wimped out because of the cold+wind. Everytime I've been up there I've felt like I was going to blow off of the mountain. We hit Ore Bucket for my first time on Thursday after all of the snow and I could ski that all day.

Anybody do their own hot waxing?

Can buy all the stuff online for under $100 and most ski shops charge $30 a so a pop. Seems easy enough watching youtube vids.

Super easy. You'll pay more care to your hot wax than most tuning techs.

Do it.

I do all my own ski work, partially because it’s cheaper and partially because I know it’s getting done right. Finding a good ski shop in the mountains can be tough, finding a good one in the flatlands is impossible. I started with a Demon set and I was happy with it although I have added more to my kit since then.

Don’t be afraid to repair bent or cracked edges and fix your base shots either, it really isn’t that hard and it’s a great activity to do while drinking a few beers or smoking a j bird
